3. Wagatomo

Putting a Japanese spin on the festivities, Wagamoto brings diners its Japanese-style Auspicious Yu Sheng ($88++ for 4-6 pax) to the table for the first time this year.  An ode to the lucky number 888 which represents wealth and good fortune, Chef Tomoyuki Kiga has intricately paired eight main ingredients with eight condiments and an Hachimi eight-spice mix to usher in the Lunar New Year. 

With the use of luxurious Japanese ingredients, it definitely sets Wagatomo’s Auspicious Yu Sheng apart from others. The salad base features julienned daikon, carrot, chuka wakame, takuwan, cucumber, and fennel, bolstered by pickled ginger, sesame oil, micro shiso leaves, sunchoke chips, crispy chicken skin, and candied nuts. It is then mixed with a dressing of calamansi and ume sauce for a burst of tanginess and topped with thick slices of chutoro.

Served with a fragrant Hainanese pineapple sauce, the Hainanese Steamed Chicken Yu Sheng (Small 4-6 pax: $28.80, Big 8-10 pax: $38.80) is certainly worth giving a try. This unique dish features carrot, green radish, purple cabbage, pickled cucumber, pickled yellow winter melon, and pickled leek are flavoured with red sweetened ginger, white ginger, sweetened lime, peanuts, sesame seeds, biscuits, five spice powder, steamed chicken, and pineapple sauce for an extra delicious touch.

6. JUMBO Group Of Restaurants

This Lunar New Year, celebrate with friends and family over good food at JUMBO Group of Restaurants – JUMBO Seafood and Zui Teochew Cuisine.

JUMBO Seafood returns with their crowd-favourite Prosperity Salmon Yu Sheng (S:$48, M: $68, L: $98) of succulent salmon fish and a salad of fresh greens. Over 15 types of auspicious vegetables and ingredients are used, making this dish a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach. The base is made up of white radish, red carrot, and green radish, bolstered by dried tangerine, red ginger, white ginger, fried sweet potato crisps, pomelo, shredded lemon leaf, crushed peanuts, sesame seeds and shredded candied winter melon. 

The Yu Sheng is then topped with thick slices of salmon to usher in a year of abundance and surplus. Do note that the Vegetarian Yu Sheng option is also available.

The Prosperity Salmon Yu Sheng is available till Feb 5 at all JUMBO Seafood outlets!

For a Teochew take on the festivities, Zui Teochew Cuisine brings you their Teochew Prosperity Yu Sheng (S:$48, M: $68, L: $98) to the table. Instead of the typical radish and carrot-based salad, Zui Teochew Cuisine’s Yu Sheng is made of red carrots and preserved radish, coriander, and chilli slices for a kick of spice, and red local lettuce, dang oh, and celery root. 

The Yu Sheng is dressed with a punchier dressing including plum sauce and mustard to give it more tang. Additionally, the Vegetarian Yu Sheng is also available as well. 

The Teochew Prosperity Yu Sheng is now available at Zui Yu Xuan Teochew Cuisine and Chui Huay Lim Teochew Cuisine from now till Feb 5. 

7. PizzaExpress

For a tasty Italian spin, PizzaExpress is now offering their Yu Sheng Pizza ($38++) and Prosperity Dough Balls ($8++ for 8pcs) till Feb 5!

Sink your teeth into a thin and crispy pizza crust with housemade passata and Spanish red onions, topped with staple Yu Sheng ingredients like smoked salmon, julienned baby romaine, red radish, daikon, carrot, cucumber, red chilli thread, candied winter melon, crispy golden pillow crackers, and a tangy calamansi plum sauce. Sprinkled with stringy mozzarella cheese, each bite is an incredible burst of flavours with a touch of comfort. 

Reminiscent of your traditional muah chee, the Prosperity Dough Balls are coated in peanut powder, sugar, white and black sesame seeds and are dipped into red condensed milk. These bite-sized treats are perfect as an appetiser or dessert for your festive gatherings.

This festive season, Menya Kokoro is proud to unveil their new Maze Lohei with a golden, crunchy twist! Priced at $16.80 for two pax, and $26.80 for four pax, this delicious delight will be available from now till Jan 31. 

Toss to good fortune with the crispy maze-soba, Menya Kokoro’s signature wholewheat noodles that are deep-fried to a crispy golden brown. Additionally, they are made in-house from scratch using imported Japanese ingredients.

The Yu Sheng features the same 12 fruits as the marquee ingredients and is served with added premium ingredients such as swordfish, hamachi, and salmon sashimi. Though the pairing of fruits with sashimi might seem odd at first, simply take a bite and enjoy the harmonious blend of flavours and textures. 

Tying the Yu Sheng together is SENS sweet homemade plum sauce. Instead of peanut or corn oil, olive oil is used instead for a healthy spin. On top of that, five-spice powder is not used, allowing the natural flavours of the ingredients to shine.

These Yu Sheng will be available from 21 January till 5 February for dine-in and takeaway.

Add an interesting Spanish flare to your yearly tradition with Arturo Sanchez Jamon Ham Yu Sheng [$78++ (3-5pax), $88 (6-8pax)] which features 100% acorn-fed Iberian ham. Using 100% Iberico pigs, it adds distinctly acorn-flavoured, buttery fat to their already privileged genetic profile. The strong flavour and fatty marbled texture of the dry-cured Jamon complement the array of vegetables and fruits.
