Tiong Bahru Bakery has come a long way since 2012 along Eng Hoon Street at Tiong Bahru, and thus the name.

9 years later, the brand has expanded to 7 outlets in TANGS Orchard, Raffles City Shopping Centre, Funan, Chip Bee Gardens, Dempsey, and their latest outlet at Fort Canning, directly opposite the old Liang Court.

Taking over the space previously occupied by The Fabulous Baker Boy (which had since shifted to their new home at Aliwal Street), Tiong Bahru Bakery Foothills is located along River Valley Road, just a 2-minutes’ walk away from Fort Canning MRT Exit B.

Their new outlet is housed within two of the original restored buildings which were home of the former River Valley Swimming Complex, one of the earliest public pools in Singapore officially opened in 1959.

To recreate and commemorate the historical site, check out the lifeguard stands, donut floats and faux “pool rules” signs that have been built within the 120-seaters space for your #OOTD shots.

Equally divided into both indoors and alfresco dining area, the latter reminded me of the safari-themed TBB at Dempsey, in terms of the layout and vibe.

Note that the alfresco dining area is not pet-friendly, but diners can choose to leash fur-kids outside the cafe.

The first thing you will notice upon entering through the doors is their display shelves with a wide assortment of pastries.

On the right, there is an “open concept” kitchen, which is a first for Tiong Bahru Bakery, where diners can witness the bakers at work churning out fresh bakes every two hours.

Here, you will notice more sourdough options on their menu, including their outlet-exclusive items.

These include Sourdough Croissant ($4.80) served with a creamy and crunchy crémeux praline filling; Nutmeg Teh Halia ($7), a ginger tea perfumed with spices; and Sourdough Kvass ($5), a sweet, sparkling and refreshing Eastern European beverage brewed with sourdough yeast.

Bestsellers include Kouign Amanns (Original $4.50, Bak Kwa $5), Croissant ($3.50), Pain Au Chocolat ($4), Almond Croissant (Original $4.80, Chocolate $5.20, Green Tea $5.20) can be seen on their display.

For the sweet tooth, keep a lookout for their Vanilla Flan ($7.50), Lemon Tart ($7.50), Chocolate Tart ($8), Passion Fruit Tart ($8.50), Chocolate Eclair ($7.50), Exotic Cheesecake ($9.50), Hazelnut Choux ($10.50) and Tiramisu ($11).

The Exotic Cheesecake ($9.50) is worth a mention with a tropical touch, comes with smooth lime & vanilla cream cheese mousse, coconut sponge with mango.

Enjoy the contrast in textures, with citrusy and refreshing passion fruit & yuzu filling, topped with coconut & lime Chantilly on a crunchy coconut crumble.

With a huge seating capacity, Tiong Bahru Bakery has provided an alternative option for the early birds and food lovers in addition to popular hangout places at Clarke Quay.
