Remember the good old days when we can travel? Well, one of the most affordable places to visit is none other than Penang, Malaysia. The little island located in the northern region of Malaysia is packed with hidden gems. Right there, you will find some interesting local dishes, too. Penang’s Hokkien Mee is surely one of ’em.

Penang-Style Hokkien Mee With Large Prawns

If you are unfamiliar with Penang’s style of Hokkien Mee, you will probably be thinking about the usual Fried Hokkien Mee. The only similarity is the fact that both of these dishes use prawns and yellow noodles – and that’s about it!

To create a hearty bowl of Penang’s Hokkien Mee, it all starts with using prawn shells to create an aromatic broth. Although the broth is red in colour, the broth isn’t as spicy as it appears to be. Commonly, other ingredients may include prawns, pork meat, hard-boiled egg, fish balls, and beansprouts!

If you would like to try, you will need to check out One Prawn Noodle located at Golden Mile Food Centre. Loved by many netizens, One Prawn Noodle was started by Gwyneth Ang, who had previously worked in prestigious restaurants such as Burnt Ends and Forlino.

Priced at $5 to $7 per bowl, One Prawn Noodle is easily recognizable with its generous amount of ingredients, and prawns that are partially peeled for your enjoyment. One Prawn Noodle surprisingly has a dry version of Penang’s Hokkien Mee. That’s definitely worth trying.
