With the resumption of dine-in in Singapore, perhaps you are looking out for a brand-new and promising cafes to head to.
And the Melbourne-inspired Little Rogue Coffee looks set to be the next bright star in this area.
The name “Little Rogue” is inspired by the owners’ children’s cheeky character and playful personality.
This is quite a family and kids-focused place, with the incorporation of a “for the little ones” menu, a small play area (currently closed for now), and even a community library to encourage customers to donate or exchange books.
Good to know: the furniture is from Hock Siong which upcycles their furniture; while biodegradable and eco-friendly packaging are used.
The cafe is started by a husband-and-wife team, because of the Husband (who is also the Head Chef)’s dream of becoming a chef since young.
Having worked in many restaurants before, including short stints in Copenhagen at Noma and Restaurant Stud!o, Chef Aaron Leow wanted to change the misconception of cafe food being “usual and boring” in Singapore.
I would safely say that the food served is definitely above the typical café standard.
All-Day Breakfast items served from 9am onwards include Breakfast Toast ($12), LRC Breakfast Patatas Bravas ($14), Sourdough Cheese Toastie ($16), Acai Bowl ($12) and House-made Granola Bowl ($12).
There are also vegan options for the last 3 items. Coffee is sourced from Proud Mary by Ballad Of Anna May, if you have cravings for your Australian-style coffee.
I couldn’t miss not having a Soft Scrambled Eggs with Truffle Cream & Ikura ($14), which turned out to be as promising as it sounded.
Compared to some truffle eggs in which the aroma will hit you at the nose, this was more mellow.
With smooth-creamy and luxurious texture, mixing in the truffle cream elevated the richness of the eggs with a faint truffle ‘fragrant’ that lasted for quite a well.
There was Japanese elements coming in the form of briny ikura, along with chopped chives and delicate shoyu taste.
If you come later from 11am onwards, there are mains in the form of House-Made Ricotta Cheese on Hotcake ($16), Spiced Chicken Panini with House Sauce ($16), Eggs Benedict Waffle ($18), Beef Cheek Linguine ($24), and an interesting-sounding K-Pop Chicken Burger ($23).
My friend was on diet, and so opted for a healthier Miso Roasted Cauliflower Steak ($18) which turned out to be sumptuously delicious.
We loved the balanced of all the components, from the smoky roasted cauliflower, tasty kale (yes, it was surprisingly tasty), to a earthy base of hummus, further complemented by candied nuts and tangy pomegranate.
The use of espresso vinaigrette was also clever, as they also wanted to highlight that they are strong in coffee as well.
As for the Ribeye Steak & Egg ($25), this was as good as some of the well-received steak restaurants out there, topped on a house-made truffle mash.
The house-made chimichurri sauce had this zesty flavour which cut through the richness of the meat.
Considering the residents around the area, there is a bicycle parking space for people to park within the cafe premises. Or customers can simply park outside while they enjoy their meals in the cafe.
While dogs are not allowed within the café, fur-parents can sit outside with their dogs on their camping chairs (Small area though, perhaps can fit 2-3 groups of people outside.)
How not to love this place?
