Despite opened in a harder-to-get-to location, Halal-certified Good Bites café at Level 3 of Bishan Sports Centre enjoy a steady flow of diners.
The brand under Citrus By The Pool (at Woodlands Swimming Complex) is known to offer customisable healthy bowls and wide selection of mains, burgers, pasta and desserts.
But first, let me climb up the flight of stairs at this Sports Centre… in this hot weather.
The outdoor seating area looked colourfully done up, with fairy-lights that would be supposedly lit up at night. However, when I visited, dining was only allowed indoors.
The indoor dining area is considered functional, though at least it wasn’t too cramped and there are full-length windows that fill the space with natural light.
While there were numerous reviews praising the friendly service, I was pretty much left unattended to both before entering and after being seated for quite a long time – no water (every table had), no instructions, a server asked if I ordered then walked away abruptly.
So I would assume that was a once-off; or that they were really busy and short-handed.
Most diners would be attracted by the weekday sets from $9.99 available from 11am to 5pm.
However, note that other than three items – Teriyaki Chicken Tomato Pasta, Turkey Bacon & Chicken Ham Carbonara and Vegetarian Aglio Olio, all the other dishes required additional top-up of $1.99 to $3.99.
Facing with choices of Baked Salmon, Chicken Steak-Out, Seafood Aglio Olio, Creamy Seafood Pasta, and Da Burger Bomb, I decided to go with the signature Tom Yum Seafood Pasta.
Objectively speaking, the sauce had a good balance of that spicy punch and sour-tanginess expected of tom yum, and didn’t go over such that it would mask the taste of the other ingredients.
It was also included with prawns, mussels and squid – pretty attracting pricing considering the air-conditioned environment, and therefore I can understand its popularity.
