Maxwell Food Centre is soon becoming a treasure trove of legit foodie finds. One recent addition to the hawker centre is Danlao, which just opened its doors on 5 December 2022. The new stall is said to be run by young hawkers.

Danlao specialises in silky scrambled eggs on rice, priced affordably under $7. The cheapest item goes for $4.50 for the Tomato flavour, which appears to be inspired by the classic Chinese dish of stir-fried tomato and scrambled eggs, AKA 番茄炒蛋.

The eggs are scrambled to order, till creamy and silky, blanketing a bed of steamed rice. The dish is then finished with soft chunks of juicy and sweet tomatoes.

There’s also a Luncheon Meat ($5) version that sees the same silky scrambled eggs, topped with bite-sized cubes of crispy luncheon meat for an extra savoury bite. Otherwise, those who looking for something more sinful can opt for the Chicken Cutlet ($6), served with hot and crispy fried chicken.

You can also get your egg rice bowl with Char Siew ($6) and Prawn ($7) or customise your meal and opt for additional toppings too.

Maxwell Food Centre is right beside the new Maxwell MRT Station on the Thomson East-Coast Line. It’s also a five-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.

Another noteworthy stall in the same hawker centre that’s worth checking out is Nian Nian You Yu, which sells fresh steamed fish for just $6.50. Alternatively, read our Mr Appam review if you’re up for fluffy appam with pandan and cheese.
