Uncle Fong Hotpot Restaurant began in Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay in 2016, and is founded by the same restaurant entrepreneur as the one behind PUTIEN. PUTIEN, as you may be familiar with, has multiple outlets islandwide, including a Michelin-starred eatery at Kitchener Road.

The restaurant will serve up ultra fiery hotpot soups, full of dried chillis, ginger, bean paste, Hanyuan pepper, and beef tallow.

The ingredients here span your staple shabu shabu meats, but also quintessential Sichuan ingredients, like soft beancurd, pig’s throat, ox liver, and sea cucumber intestines. Some of these ingredients are also exclusive to Uncle Fong, so do make sure you try their famed Putien Soft Tofu, and Wulong Sweet Potato noodles.

Another unique feature is their nine-chambered hotpot, divided up so you can dip your ingredients in specific compartments without changing the flavour of the broth. However, your regular dual hotpots are also available here, if you prefer.

As for soup bases, the signature Chongqing broth is a must, but if you can’t take spice, then there’s also a pork broth, tomato broth, and fruit and vegetable broth. Soups are $7 a person.

The restaurant seats 80 total, making it great for gatherings with fam and friends. There are also private rooms that you can book out, which seat up to eight.
