I have written about quite a number of hidden cafes, but this is located within … a spa centre.

Somewhere not quite expected.

Opened by the owner behind the spa establishment SPACLUB along Beach Road, Fahrenheit Coffee is their newest cafe concept occupying the reception area.

Referring to the temperature scale used and not the Taiwanese boy band 飞轮海 (Fei Lun Hai, does this reveal my age?), Fahrenheit Coffee is equipped with mini terrazzo, coffee tables, booth and sofa seats for 10 pax.

The first thing that caught my attention was the scent, just how a spa establishment would smell like, making patrons feel like they are in Bangkok or something.

Nothing too exciting about the menu, which offers the usual espresso-based drinks such as Espresso ($4), Black ($4), White ($5), Mocha ($5.50) with options for Ice (+$1), Alternative milk (+$1), additional Espresso Shot (+$1), Upsize from 6oz to 10oz (+$1).

I wished there was some ‘spa-drinks’, like some fruit-infused detox coolers or something.

A single origin from Brazil is used for their express-based drinks roasted by The Community Coffee which is owned by the owner’s brother.

I ordered the 1 + 1 ($8) which included both White and Espresso in order to try out the different taste profile between the two.

The espresso tended to be citrusy with orange taste with a light-caramelised sensation.

On the other hand, the White had a medium body, chocolatey with almond nuts with a mild acidity and a lighter roast.

For the non-coffee drinkers, Chocolate ($5.50), Matcha Latte ($5.50) and Chai Latte ($5.50) are options available.

Using matcha powder from The Matcha Project At Sails @ Marina Bay, the Matcha Latte ($5.50) was smooth and milky, on the sweeter side due to the sweetened matcha powder.

3 different pastries are available as light bites, which include Banana Bread ($6.50) baked in-house, Cardamom Bun ($6.50) and Canele – Butter Cookie, Coffee ($6.50) from home bakers.

My favourite was the Butter Cookie Canele ($6.50) with a good combination of textures – crispy on the outside, moist and chewy on the inside with the right amount of sweetness.

The texture of the Banana Bread ($6.50) reminded me (in a little way) of the famous Hiap Joo Bakery in Johor Bahru, known for their wood fire oven baked banana cakes with a crispy crunchy texture.

The Banana Bread ($6.50) was served warm, with a moist and chewy texture, sans the scent of the traditional wood fire.

Unlike most coffee places with a strong and robust scent of the coffee beans, Fahrenheit Coffee provides a more unique experience with an alluring floral and essential oil scent in their premise.
