It takes a lot of skills to fold the perfect steamed dumplings. Soon kueh, also uncommonly known as bamboo shoot cake, is a type of steamed dumplings in Teochew cuisine. The delicate dumpling has a crystal-like skin made of rice and tapioca flour. Once you have popped one soon kueh in your mouth, you will automatically have another – and that’s how good it is. Here’s where you can get ’em in Singapore!

Eatery Has Handmade Colourful Soon Kuehs With Bak Kwa Fillings

Introducing one of the connoisseurs of soon kueh in Singapore, One Kueh At A Time. It was once operating as a hawker stall in Berseh Food Centre before it reopens in a new location. Now, you can find it at Pandan Looop! With frosted windows all around, One Kueh At A Time has a minimal setting with comfortable seatings. A perfect spot for gatherings after this season is over.

Not to worry, you can still get these soon kuehs, and munch them at the comfort of your own home. One Kueh At A Time has a variety of flavours to choose from. One of the flavours definitely caught our attention! Interestingly stuffed with bak kwa and beetroot, the red soon kueh stands out in colour. In terms of flavour, it’s good to eat own its own with a little burst of saltiness from the bak kwa.

Apart from bak kwa and beetroot soon kueh, another interesting choice is haebi hiam. A crowd-pleasing stuffing, the spicy dried shrimp sambal guarantees to tickle your tastebuds. Complete the set with other fun choices such as ku chai, carrot, and beetroot. Yes, classic soon kueh is part of the menu, too.
