What makes Korean Fried Chicken different?

Fresh cuts of chicken are coated in Chir Chir’s signature crunchy batter and deep-fried together with sweet potato cubes.

What follows is tossing the crunchy and juicy chunks of fried chicken in a liberal dose of addictive curry seasoning, fragrant curry leaves and sliced almonds.

The Korean-style curry seasoning not only gives the chicken a beautiful yellow exterior, and mild-spiciness and unique spice aroma.

This powder enhances the overall flavour, with the outer later tasting sweet, salty and spicy. Upon the first bite, I thought it reminded me almost of curry-flavoured Twisties. Potentially very addictive.

Spicy Chilli Soy Chicken ($16.90 for half, $29.90 for whole, $27.90 for tenders, $26.90 for drumlets & wings) NEW
Two-in-one dish with fried chicken and toppoki (Korean rice cakes) slicked with a sticky sweet-spicy chilli and soy sauce.

After frying, the chicken parts are hand-brushed with the sauce in order to evenly coat the chicken with a thin layer. The sauce is absorbed into the crust, adding savour without making it soggy.

Compared to the usual soy chicken which is typically sweet and fragrant, this has an added spice just slightly tinging on the tongue.

Vampire Killer ($25.90) NEW
Called the “Vampire Killer” because this is topped with fried garlic, dried chilli, and spring onions, but not too much that you would go away with ‘garlic breath’.

These drumlets and wings are fried differently from their other chicken – you don’t get that floury fried batter (healthier perhaps?), then tossed in Chir Chir’s secret spicy sauce.

I was expecting this to be ferociously spicy, but it wasn’t and threaded on safer grounds.

Sour Cream & Onion Chicken ($27.90) NEW
What you get are juicy fried chicken tenders marinated with Chir Chir’s secret seasoning, then topped with sweet slivers of onion and served with creamy onion dipping sauce.

Okay, this is for the lazy people who do not want the inconvenience of bones. But I must say that creamy sauce and snow-like sweetish powder gave this the added dimension.

The onions help to cut some of the richness of fried chicken.

Of all the new dishes introduced, this would please those who love the sour-cream type of seasoning loaded with a mountain of sweet onions.

Chir Bulgogi Fries Tower ($11.90) NEW
Tower of possible-guilt built with shoe-string fries, heaps of minced bulgogi chicken, chopped jalapenos, and teriyaki sauce.

That is not all. There are also Grana Padano cheese shavings and nacho cheese sauce – you can pour liberally over or use as a dip. AND there is also a salsa dip.

Other than the cheese, the element that made the difference was the bulgogi chicken that tasted like meat-sauce seeping with mildly sweet, savoury, smoky flavours.

Garlicky Soy Chicken ($16.90 for half, $29.90 for whole, $27.90 for tenders, $26.90 for drumlets & wings)
For 6 hours the fresh chicken is marinated in a special blend, then battered and deep-fried until it is worthy to be called Crispy Fried Chicken.

The meat remains succulent and flavourful not only on the skin, but all the way to the bone. Plus that ultra-fragrant garlic aroma.

This fried chicken is swaddled in a house-made soy-based sauce, infused with biting flavours from the minced garlic and fried garlic cloves. Lip-smacking good.

Spicy Yangnyeom Chicken ($16.90 for half, $29.90 for whole, $27.90 for tenders, $26.90 for drumlets & wings)
If you love a good, spicy meal, Chir Chir’s Spicy Chicken should interest you. These crunchy chicken pieces, are slathered with a sticky spicy chilli sauce with a hint of sweetness, then topped with nutty almond flakes.

This was not as spicy as I imagined, but on the third piece or so, you may just feel the heat settling in.

And if it they’re not spicy enough for you, there’s always a way to level up.

Nacho Chicken ($27.90) seasonal
This Chir Chir’s Tex-Mex fried chicken tenders and corn tortilla chips topped with chicken chilli cheese sauce, turned out the dish we swept clean.

The chicken pieces are coated with this special cheese powder that has an addictive-sweetish tinge. As you reach out to have more and more, it feels as though you are having ‘cinema food’ of Doritos. Unstoppable.

Seafood Mac & Cheese ($12.90 for single portion, $20.90 for double portion)
An Asian twist on an American favourite, this ‘Korean’ Macaroni and Cheese is a hot pan containing crabstick, ham, mozzarella, cheddar and cheese sauce.

Not as heavy and rich, and pretty manageable for sharing.

Mango Salad ($13.90)
Indulged in too much chicken? Cleanse your taste buds with this Mango Salad, a refreshing mix of lettuce, cherry tomatoes, olives, and of course, the star of this salad – loads of juicy, ripe mango cubes.

Toss them altogether in the tangy yoghurt sauce complemented with a sprinkling of berry fresh blueberries.
