Nestled near the popular street of Keong Saik with wide selection of cafes and restaurants, Chez Suzette has opened along Teck Lim Road, diagonally across the popular Burnt Ends.

The area is getting populated with new entrant Acoustics Coffee Bar which shifted from Ang Mo Kio and old time favourites Michelin Bib Gourmand Man Man Japanese Unagi Restaurant and Kok Sen, African -Theme Kafe Utu, Muse Initiative by Hvala and Keong Saik Bakery.

Occupying 2 storeys with both 8 seats indoors and 16 seats in the alfresco dining area, French elements are incorporated in the interior design.

Here, mainly black & white colours are used with a minimalistic design, accentuated by the brown colours from the retro rattan chairs that add a relaxed but chic look.

My favourite corner is their alfresco dining space, the patio which is the paved outdoor area with tall ceilings, hanging fans, huge plants and ample sunlight shining through in the morning that create the lush space.

Named after co-owner Suzette Simon, Chez Suzette is the brainchild of the husband-and-wife team, who first met while working at 3 Michelin Stars restaurant, Joël Robuchon.

With a similar passion for food, wine, and good company, the couple wants to build a space for people to come together, and to build a community that bonds over food, wine and good company.

Owner Suzette can be seen busy entertaining all the diners, passionate and cheery to welcome everyone to their new “home” and she’s more than willing to bring everyone to tour around the 2nd story which is currently undergoing renovation and will be opened for dining in at a later date.

There, diners can expect a more cosy experience upstairs, equipped with a bar, retail and workshop space with curated items from local artists and craftsmen.

Their menu starts from 8.30am with All-Day Breakfast such as Egg Mayo Croissant ($8), Avocado Toast ($14), Eggs Benedict with Parma Ham or Salmon ($16), Croque Monsieur ($14), Beetroot Burrata Salad (2 pax $32), Dippy Eggs with Toast Soldiers ($7), Pancakes with Berries ($16) and Homemade Granola Bowls with Yogurt ($13).

I particularly enjoyed the Eggs Benedict ($16) that comes with a choice of Parma Ham or Salmon, which is considered a staple in most brunch places.

While most places served their poached eggs on a huge slice of brioche or sourdough, the version here is served on mini brioche with a fluffy texture almost like a muffin.

The eggs are well poached, oozy and creamy with a more intense shade of orange, drizzled with Hollandaise sauce with a slight citrus tang.

The Egg Mayo Croissant ($8) was simple yet satisfying, with generous amount of smashed eggs marinated with mayonnaise to create a creamy texture.

Black pepper is sprinkled to elevate the flavours, well-complemented by the flaky and buttery croissant.

The Pancakes with Berries ($16) comes with a choice of maple syrup or chocolate, the former drizzled generously onto the pancakes.

I was pretty surprised with the amount of maple syrup used and was skeptical about the sweetness of this dish.

Yes, it’s sweet but thankfully not cloyingly sweet, balanced but the citrus-ness from the raspberries, blueberries and blackberries.

Unlike the thicker, fluffy pancakes that we are familiar with, the pancakes here are thinner, with a crepe-like texture that is slightly denser and chewy.

Apart from All-Day Breakfast, Starters ($8- $49) and Mains ($28 – $44) with a good selection of Seafood, Beef, Chicken and Duck are available on the menu.

Only two items are on the dessert menu: Homemade Cookies with Hot Chocolate or Milkshake ($8) and signature Crepe Suzette ($10, Flambée $15), which happened to be named after a girl with the same name as owner Suzette.

Coffee beans used for their espresso-based drinks are supplied by Alchemist, with the usual options Cafe Americano ($4.50), Flat White/ Cappuccino/ Latte ($5.50), Mocha ($6) and Piccolo ($5).

No fancy latte art, just a decent cup of drinks in their gorgeous ceramic cups and saucer.
