If you are looking for a quiet respite and a quick caffeine fix in the Chinatown and Kretya Ayer area, head over to Butler Koffee at Level 3, which is slightly off the beaten track.

Butler Koffee has shifted from a mobile coffee cart to a permanent space within scuba diving centre ScubaPeople.

It is located at Block 333 Kreta Ayer right above Sugar Thieves and The Social Space, a short walk from Keong Saik.

Owner Alicia Yap started off her barista journey working at cafes back in the UK as a hospitality student.

She then continued to pursue her dream with a mobile coffee cart in 2017 before settling down as a pop-up in front of Moonstone along Amoy Street.

The cafe scene here is strong around this area with options such as Enclave, Muse Initiative by Hvala, Keong Saik Bakery, Kafe UTU, Baker’s Bench Bakery , Apiary and Don Ho.

There is a different vibe here at Butler Koffee as they are co-sharing a space with a retail and scuba diving centre.

Most of the ‘dine-in’ seats are available along the corridor overlooking the colourful heritage shophouses.

Using a 2-beans-blend (Dark Matter – Brazil, Colombia) roasted by Alchemist. for their espresso-based drinks, their menu offers Espresso (Single $4, Double $4.50) Black ($5), White ($5), Chocolate ($5.50), Mocha ($6).

All their drinks are served in takeaway cups, with options such as Iced (+$1), Oat Milk (+$1) and Soy Milk (+$1).

My cup of Flat White ($5) was smooth and medium-bodied with hints of chocolate and hazelnut even though I wished that it was more robust.

On the other hand, I will recommend their Cold Brew ($8) available in flavours such as White, Black, Chocolate, Mocha, Elder & Cream Black Tea and Maple Vanilla Green Tea.

Using a different 2-beans-blend from their espresso-based drinks, Guatemala and Brazil beans roasted by 2-Degrees North are used for their Cold Brew.

The result is a medium-heavy body with robust-nutty and chocolatey tasting notes and a distinctive sweet finishing.

A Midnight Brownie ($5) available was sourced from Bakerlette, which can be enjoyed chilled or reheated.

I opted to have it reheated, and was surprised with the gooey moist Nutella stuffed core, with intense dark cocoa outer layer. Good to have this rich brownie with an Iced Black or Cold Brew.
