Firewood brunch in the day, pizza at night. The River Valley hood is getting more exciting in terms of cafe options.
This co-sharing cafe concept at Mohamed Sultan Road housing both Gelatolabo and GLASS Roasters is now finally complete with another two entrants.
A four-way use of space.
Diners can now enjoy wood fired brunch in the day by Brick, wood fired pizza at night after 5pm by P. is for Pizza.
Unlike the Faber Drive outlet which only houses Gelatolabo and GLASS Roasters, the Mohamed Sultan Road outlet is bigger which allows more tenants to better utilise the space.
Using their wood fire oven for all their dishes, diners can expect a smokey aroma and a charred taste in the various components on the plate.
Brunch items such as Acai Superfood Bowl ($15), Cast Iron Baked Shashuka ($16), Convent Truffle Potatoes ($16), Boston Crab Cakes ($28), Breakfast of Champions ($28) and French Brioche Toast ($20) are available from 9am daily.
If you are heading for the mains, go after 10:30am for items of Smoked Tomato Soup ($12), Smoked Grilled Lemongrass Chicken ($24), Red Miso Crusted Salmon ($28) and 100 Days Ribeye Steak & Eggs ($32).
The Boston Crab Cakes ($28) arrived with 2 crab cake patties, coated in a batter before putting in into the wood fire oven.
There was a pleasant creaminess from the single poached egg, citrusy touch from the kefir lime in the mayonnaise, and a hint of spiciness from the paprika powder sprinkled.
My only gripe was that the batter used for the crab cakes being slightly too thick, and as a thinner and crispy layer should provide better contrast in textures.
The French Brioche Toast ($20) is worth a mention: thick, soft and fluffy brioche bread grilled on both sides in the wood fire oven before light sprinkling of icing sugar.
The blueberries, strawberries, raspberries added a nice fruity- tangy touch, while the caramelised banana and brioche helped balance with some sweetness.
The highlight was the maple bacon caramel served on the side – savoury and nutty in flavour with a sticky and chewy texture.
The Smoked Tomato Soup ($12) from the Mains menu was a comforting dish with house roasted roma tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, basil, paprika and peppers boiled in the in the same wood fire oven.
With the addition of both Brick and P. is for Pizza, diners can now enjoy a more complete brunch experience here.
