Bakkwa Ice Cream at Bee Cheng Hiang

bee cheng hiang bakkwa ice cream - intro

Bee Cheng Hiang is no stranger to the local food scene—the food company famed for its bak kwa has been around since 1933. Some time ago, they collaborated with HEYTEA to launch a limited-edition soft serve with bak kwa, where a tea-flavoured soft serve came topped with a coin of Bee Cheng Hiang’s golden coin bak kwa. This year, they’ve taken it a step further to launch Bakkwa Ice Cream in a cup.

Now available at FairPrice and Sheng Shiong supermarkets, as well as selected Bee Cheng Hiang outlets, the Bakkwa Ice Cream comes in twin packs of two cups. Each twin pack is priced at $10.25, and is made with a base of vanilla ice cream with chunks of real bak kwa within.

While ice cream and bak kwa may sound a little strange, the monotony of the plain, creamy vanilla base is actually livened up with the chewy, smoky bak kwa bits. If you think about it, bak kwa on its own is also slightly sweet from the maltose that’s spread over the meat to grill, so the flavours are actually pretty complementary once you get accustomed to it.

With the end of the year upon us, Chinese New Year will be here before we know it, so these sweet-savoury treats have come at a good time, whether you’re looking for a Asian-inspired dessert this Christmas, or stocking up ahead of the CNY crowd.

If you’re looking to get it at Bee Cheng Hiang, the outlets that this Bakkwa Ice Cream is available at are: Ang Mo Kio, Bedok North, Bugis Village, Causeway Point, Clementi Central, Compass One, Junction 8, Jurong Point, Northpoint City, Serangoon Road, Tampines Central, Tampines Mall, Toa Payoh, West Mall, and 189 New Bridge Road.

McDonald’s To Launch New Mango Pie And Bring Back Hershey’s McFlurry From 4 November

Another new launch you could look forward to is McDonald’s newest creation: a Mango Pie that’s also got nata de coco in the filling for a chewy surprise. Other than the all-new Mango Pie, they’re also bringing back the hot favourite Hershey’s series of McFlurry, Sundae, and soft serve!

On the topic of new launches, there’s a new Japanese parfait dessert that’s been spotted at Don Don Donki. Sold at $6.90 a cup, each has layers of cake, ice cream, cookie crumbles, and even sauce toppings. Available in flavours such as Chocolate & Vanilla, Strawberry Cheesecake, Vanilla Mixed Nuts, and even a Mint Chocolate, these ice cream cups are a whole premade sundae treat in one.
