Every time someone mentions curry puffs to me, the first thing that comes to my mind is Old Chang Kee, but I believe there are many other curry puff stalls out there waiting to be heard of. If you love snacking on curry puffs as well, I’ve compiled a list of the best curry puffs in Singapore that won’t disappoint both you and your tummy!

Update: Rolina is temporarily closed.

1. Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff

If you frequent Hong Lim Market & Food Centre in Chinatown often, you would probably have stumbled upon Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff Since 1952, known for their Potato Chicken with Egg Curry Puff ($2). The extra crispy skin gives a crunch into the savoury and spicy curried potato chicken and the hard-boiled egg adds an element of surprise. It’s a moreish snack to have so always buy more than one if you’re planning to get it!

Do note that there’s also another stall with a similar name (Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff Original) at Unit #02-36, run by the hawker’s brother.

2. Rolina Traditional Hainanese Curry Puffs

Located in Tanjong Pagar Plaza Market & Food Centre is Rolina Traditional Hainanese Curry Puffs, a curry puff stall that has been operating since 1958. Some of you might be familiar with this stall as they used to operate outside Novena Church. Mr Tham, the owner of this stall, was taught by a Hainanese sailor-chef, hence their signature handmade Hainanese Curry Puff ($1.80). Despite being on the smaller side, it is jam-packed with curried potatoes and hard-boiled egg. Their fillings are slightly spicier compared to typical curry puffs and it is definitely a must-try if you love both curry puffs and spicy food.

1A Crispy Puff‘s curry puffs have a distinguishable fan-like shape with a multi-layered crust. Having been around since 1991, they sure know how to make a mean curry puff. This is proven with their classic Crispy Curry Chicken Puff ($1.80). Its skin is thin, flaky, and buttery, and has an addictive crunch to it. Their curry puffs are always served piping hot so it’s best to eat them right away.

Their Curry Puffs ($2) are freshly handmade and deep-fried until golden brown. It is loaded with diced curry potatoes, hard-boiled egg, and chicken meat. They also have a sardine puff that is equally good. Their puffs are not too greasy despite being deep-fried and the tip of the crust packs an extra buttery crunch.

A curry puff list isn’t complete without mentioning J2 Famous Crispy Curry Puff, a Michelin Bib Gourmand hawker stall located in Amoy Street Food Centre. Their Crispy Curry Chicken Puff ($1.80) tends to sell out early so if you snooze, you lose. If not, their Crispy Sardine Puff ($1.80) will suffice too. The sardine has a nice balance of sweet and tangy flavours without being overpowering. Expect a crumbly mess from the crispy and flaky skin, and a burst of the fillings from inside. Get their Chicken Potato with Egg Curry Puff ($2), as it is great for breakfasts and tea breaks. Its exterior is crispy and thin, with layers which resemble contour lines on a map. The filling is mildly flavoured and savoury, so even kids can enjoy this snack. The potatoes are on the chunkier side compared to regular curry puffs so it feels more shiok.
