New restaurants in Singapore—November 2021

In spite of ongoing restrictions, November offers plenty of new restaurants in Singapore to dine at to take your mind off current affairs. From a new hotpot and dim sum concept by the chefs behind Fullerton Hotel and Mott32, as well as an affordable don bowl joint by an ex-DB Bistro chef, here’s a list of new restaurants and cafes this November 2021 you can jio your plus one to.

1. Around Cafe

Easties, your hood just got tons cooler with Around Cafe, a glasshouse cafe that opens till 2am, serving up desserts such as gelato and waffles to satisfy your cravings. Go big and get their Waffles With Two Rounds ($14.90), a double scoop serving of gelato atop crispy buttermilk waffles, with the option of Biscoff or chocolate sauce as a topping. Other menu items include an array of chunky cookies, acai bowls, and mocktails to quench your thirst.

Situated next to The Alps Residences, this off-the-beaten-track gem tends to draw a long queue after hours, so be sure to head down earlier if you want to munch on some waffles before bedtime.

Famed Taiwanese bubble tea brand Dont Yell At Me has finally arrived in Singapore after opening over 380 outlets worldwide. Their local outpost in Orchard sees all their famous signature drinks, as well as baked goods from The Bake Vault.

We weren’t the biggest fans of their bakes, but the drinks are definitely recommended. Most beverages have a Taiwanese twist, from offering winter melon tea to the option of sweet potato and taro balls as a topping. We especially loved their Tiramisu Cheese Foam ($9)—while pricey, this once-in-a-while indulgence is literally dessert in a cup.

Ex-DB Bistro chef Wilson Ang has branched out on his own to open The Gyu Co, an affordable eatery that serves up a medley of Japanese-inspired don bowls, with premium ingredients. Beef is clearly the mainstay here, so try their Classic Gyudon ($9.90), which comes with 100g of melt-in-your-mouth Aussie Wagyu, pearl grain rice, and an onsen egg atop. For a serious treat, the Truffle Foie Gras Gyudon ($17.90) hits all the spots, with a torched slab of foie gras, truffle shavings, and thin Wagyu slices all topping your rice bowl.

While the menu has its atas moments, the eatery remains a humble gem. Located a short walk from Jurong East MRT Station, the stall currently offers only outdoor seating, and can get crowded during meal hours.

They have since revamped, however, to become Yanxi Dim Sum & Hotpot, a new restaurant offering the best of both worlds, including a brand-new dim sum and ala carte menu, conceptualised by the ex-chefs of Fullerton Hotel, and Mott32 in Marina Bay Sands.
