Opening Hours: 12pm – 3pm, 5pm – 11pm (Mon – Sun)

Travel back to old Beijing through a trip to Hutong restaurant, a 110-seater resto clad in Chinese silk drapes and bold, red lanterns. Its ambiance aims to preserve the Chinese city’s distinctive charm and laid-back character in contrast to the bustling backdrop of Clarke Quay riverside.

Diners order their Mala Xiao Long Xia with Moutai ($38.90) with baby crawfish stir-fried with a blend of aromatic mala spices. When served, a shot of Moutai is drizzled over and flambéed for a dramatic presentation.

All skewers are marinated in a special in-house blend of cooking wine, salt, white pepper powder, and cumin powder. For some meats, they add dark soya sauce to intensity the umami. Marination is done overnight to ensure the meats are thoroughly flavoured.

A special blend of salt, sugar, garlic powder, cumin powder, chicken stock powder and chilli flakes (for spicy offerings) are sprinkled atop the skewer.

Instead of plates, these are served over a China-imported griller to keep them warm throughout your meal. As the skewers are grilled over charcoals, each one gets that nice, smoky finish that linger as you eat.

For a fuss-free lunch, get the Set Lunch Hutong ($15) with an assortment of 8 sticks of BBQ skewers, including meats like beef, pork, and chicken; veggies like broccoli, romaine lettuce, eggplant; oyster mushroom, and potato chips.
