Shen Bakmi Noodle was started by a Chinese-Indonesian cook in March 2020. For those who have never tried bakmi before, it is usually served with minced pork, char siew, and vegetables, similar to our local bak chor mee! The stall offers an authentic and comforting taste of Indonesian noodles, with unique toppings like pumpkin and ramen egg, ingredients we don’t usually find in our local version. Additionally, Shen also sells their noodles pre-packaged for you to enjoy from the comfort of your home!

Served at various price points, the Soy Pork Stew Noodle ranges from $5 to $8, differing in portion size and variety of ingredients. The Classic Soy Pork Noodle ($7) is served with an array of ingredients- soy minced pork, fish paste slices, meatball, vegetables, a ramen egg, a slice of pumpkin, and chunks of water chestnut. The homemade noodles are tossed in fragrant oil and a beautiful mix of seasonings. The noodles are cooked perfectly, giving them an amazing QQ texture that’s actually pretty reminiscent of kolo mee! The seasoning and sauce that coats the noodles have a good depth of flavour, with the water chestnut giving a refreshing and delightful crunch to each bite!
As for the minced pork, they add a pleasant savouriness while the handmade meatball is juicy and has a good bite. Additionally, the ramen egg brings an incredible touch of creaminess to the dish! Compared to our local bak chor mee, the bakmi from Shen’s is a much healthier version, perfect for those health-conscious individuals! Overall, it might not be the best noodle dish out there, but it definitely doesn’t disappoint and is certainly still worth checking out!
