Martabak Manis: Indonesian-Style Pancakes

Smile Martabak was started by newlyweds, Rum Tan and Jessica Mulyawan, whose main jobs are actually running their tuition agency – Smiletutor, which they started in 2015! They were inspired to start their online food business as they felt they could not find any stalls in Singapore serving good martabak manis. Due to Covid-19 as well, the couple was unable to travel to Jessica’s homeland, Indonesia, for their martabak fix. By bringing well-known Indonesian food to Singapore and making it popular, they hope their online business will help strengthen ties between the two countries!
They are currently operating their martabak business out of a central kitchen in Bukit Batok, which Jessica oversees. Each martabak features a 22cm-wide pancake that is freshly made and served warm. Although Smile Martabak is not currently halal-certified, they only use halal ingredients and their chef is Indonesian Muslim. They are, however, currently in the midst of getting certified!
Delectable Sweet-Savoury Flavours
Using ingredients imported from Indonesia, the couple strives to provide the best and most authentic martabak manis for everyone to enjoy!
Here are two of their popular sweet-savoury flavours, that are currently on discount as well!
Original Choco Cheese ($19.30, U.P. $24)

For fans of sweet-savoury dishes, this will definitely hit the spot! Smile Martabak uses creamy Ovaltine spread and grated cheddar cheese, giving a perfect balance of sweet and savoury! The Ovaltine is sweet and luscious, pairing beautifully with the savoury cheddar! Additionally, Dutch Wijsman butter and Indomilk condensed milk are used to ensure customers receive the most authentic taste! Be sure to top up 50 cents for some crunchy crushed peanuts as they add amazing textural contrast to your pancake!
Pandan Cheese Milk ($19.30, U.P. $24)

A must-try for cheese and milk lovers! Sink your teeth into a delicious pandan pancake stuffed with grated cheddar and drizzled with condensed milk for the ultimate cheesy milky experience! The pancake adds a slight pandan flavour to each bite, with the cheddar and milk complementing each other harmoniously for an amazing sweet and savoury combo! For those who might find chocolate a tad too heavy, this pancake will make a good sweet-savoury alternative!
