New dino-themed food hall Jurassic Nest opens in Gardens by the Bay
Dinosaur fans ahoy; there’s a new dino-themed foodcourt at Gardens by the Bay, and it’s wild. Not only does Jurassic Nest feature 18 ultra realistic-looking dinos, but it also boasts six big-name brands, of which four are Michelin-recognised!
First up, there’s Hawker Chan, AKA the world’s first Michelin-starred hawker stall. They’ve lost their star since, but it’s no less reason to enjoy their renowned soya sauce chicken and rice. If you’ve not tried it, go for Soya Sauce Chicken Rice ($8.80), or Soya Sauce Chicken Noodle ($9.80), which you can choose to have with QQ Hong Kong Style Noodle or hor fun.
Another first on the Michelin list is Tsuta, which was the first ramen shop ever to receive a star. The Original Truffle Shoyu Soba, their star dish, is priced at $16.80. Otherwise, you could also try their Premium Char Siu Truffle Shio Soba ($20.80) for a lighter-flavoured option. They’ve even got a Crab Soba ($22.80) for seafood lovers, and Mala Tonkotsu ($15.80)!
On the halal front, Bismillah Briyani has the honour of being the world’s only Michelin-recognised briyani, having been awarded the Bib Gourmand a whopping total of six times. They won acclaim for their Chicken Dum Biryani ($9/$16), but stick to the Jurassic theme and order yourself a T-Rex Biryani ($30), which stars a huge lamb shank.
Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang, the other halal-certified stall in Jurassic Nest, won the Michelin Plate in 2021, and was featured in the guide this year too. The must-try dish, of course, is Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang ($9.90), which marries coconut rice with Indonesian-style grilled chicken, dashed over with a spicy house-made sambal.
Then, you have Thai eatery Took Lae Dee, with familiar favourites including “Pad Krapow” Minced Pork with Chilli and Basil Leaves served with Rice ($8.80), “Pad Thai” Thai Fried Rice Noodle (Prawn) ($9.80) and more.
JN Cafe is the only stall that’s open from 8:30am daily before the food hall starts operations at 11am. There’s a small, non-air-conditioned dining area just outside the main hall if you’re having breakfast here—get Kopi O (from $2.80) or Milo Dinosaur ($5) alongside Kaya Butter ($2.40) and Soft Boiled Egg ($1.80 for two). Otherwise, order a Crispy Chicken Waffle ($14), or Chicken Spam Carbonara ($14)!
Ma Ma by Putien was not open at the time of our visit, but we’re hoping they feature similar dishes as their casual fast-dining concept CHOP CHOP by Putien at NUS.
