Fun fact, the people behind Hello Arigato are actually the brains behind The Refinery, the popular Japanese restaurant as well! Looks like they are certainly no strangers when it comes to serving up modern Japanese cuisine and brunch fare! The cozy cafe is decked in white with Scandinavian-style interiors, giving off warm and cozy vibes as soon as you step in! There’s even a table outside for those who want to bring their pets along!

Both outlets feature items from the owners’ personal collection as well as design pieces from international brands such as Louis Poulsen, Vitra, Hay, Ferm Living, Vitsoe, String, and Flos. Additionally, coffee mugs and items from local brands and sustainable labels are also available at the Joo Chiat outlet!
Scrumptious Sandos To Enjoy!

Starting off with their outlet-exclusive item, the Har Cheong Gai Sando ($16) is perfect for all you fans of the crowd-favorite zhi char dish! The aroma of the shrimp paste hits you immediately, letting you know you’re in for an amazing treat! Marinated for over 48 hours, the chicken simply bursts in flavour and is incredibly crispy, making every bite super shiok! On top of that, the flavours aren’t too overbearing, allowing you to woof it down without feeling jelak.
The Japanese Milk Bread is nice and fluffy, with the crunchy cucumber and creamy sauce adding a pleasant contrast of textures to the chicken! However, the flavour of the milk bread is overpowered by the har cheong gai, leaving little trace of its sweetness. Overall, it’s still an amazing dish that’s definitely worth a try!

Up next is one of their best-sellers, which is their Tamago Sando ($14)! Served with three types of egg- Japanese egg mayo, tamagoyaki, and ajitama egg, this is every egg lover’s dream! The egg mayo is seriously creamy and explodes in eggy goodness with each bite! Additionally, there is a pleasant hint of wasabi that comes through at the end, elevating the flavours!
Although the tamagoyaki is chopped up and mixed with the egg mayo, there is hardly any trace of its sweetness, making it a slight letdown. When paired with the ajitama egg, it adds an additional layer of flavour and texture that makes it simply divine! As the sando gets a little heavy after a while, it is recommended to share this sandwich!
Tasty Sides Also Available!

If you have more room in your stomach for some sides, be sure to go for their outlet-exclusive Hello Twister Fries ($13)! Why wait for Mcdonald’s seasonal offering when you can head down here and have it all the time! The fries are really crispy, with the creaminess of the cheese sauce and Japanese curry giving a good contrast of textures.

Although the sweetness of the curry balances out some of the savouriness from the cheese, it is still slightly on the saltier side. One recommendation would be to scrape off some of the sauce to tone down the flavours. Overall, it’s still a tasty dish to try, especially if you enjoy twister fries!

For all you hash brown lovers, Hello Arigato has got you covered as well! Their Hello Kombu Tots ($12) are fried to a crispy golden brown and served with shio kombu and nori mayo. The nori mayo is tangy with a slight sweetness, and you can definitely taste the seaweed!
Furthermore, the flavours go amazing with the tater tots, and its creaminess gives a delightful blend of textures. It is however a tad salty as well, making it a good dish to share as it gets a bit jelak after a while.
