Opened by plant lovers, Faith and Jeff, O Happi Place is one of the newest dessert cafes to have graced the neighbourhood of Everton Park. After leaving her job in the finance industry after 20 years, Faith started to focus on her passion for ice cream which soon became a small home-based business. As you can probably guess, her home business eventually became O Happi Place, which opened on March 24!

The cafe’s interior is decked in pink and white, giving a pleasantly cosy and relaxing vibe. The most eye-catching area would definitely be the “green” corner which is filled with the couple’s own plant collection! For those who prefer eating outdoors, there are seats available outside as well with more potted plants to admire.

Each tub of gelato is made in-house and all the flavours are of Faith’s own creation! Expect at least 18 flavours available at any one time, ensuring you’ll be spoilt for choice! Offering classic flavours like Coconut with Kaffir Lime ($4.50), you can also enjoy premium flavours like their Sake Melon (+ $2), Ju Pu (+ $1), and Dark Chocolate Earl Grey (+ $1). For premium flavours, the top-up price ranges from $1 to $2.

A plethora of other amazing flavours are also available-from Cereal Milk, Bergamot Orange, and Yellow Capsicum, to local flavours like Kopi C and Ondeh Ondeh. Not only that, you can pair your gelatos with freshly-baked waffles and sip on some coffee & tea for ultimate enjoyment!

Ju Pu & Sake Melon

For those ordering the waffles, it is $6.50 on its own, $9.90 for one scoop of gelato, $4 for an additional scoop, and $1 to $2 top-up for premium flavours as per usual. The waffles served here are denser than your typical Belgian waffles, yet are still crispy and fluffy and pair perfectly with the gelatos!

Up first is their best-seller which is their Ju Pu, a combination of traditional pu’er and chrysanthemum tea. The gelato has a pleasant fragrance of chrysanthemum and is incredibly refreshing and creamy! Tasting just like ju pu tea, there is a good balance of both flavours, with the chrysanthemum coming through a tad more. For those who enjoy ju pu tea, you will definitely love this!

For the Sake Melon, it is made with fresh rockmelon soaked in sake overnight, giving it a delightfully sweet flavour! Tasting similar to Melona’s Melon Ice Cream, the gelato has an incredible rockmelon flavour with a hint of sake to cut through the sweetness. However, it could use a little more sake for an extra kick. Do note this is a seasonal flavour, so hurry down now for a taste!

Dark Chocolate Earl Grey & Coconut With Kaffir Lime

One of the must-tries definitely has to be the Coconut with Kaffir Lime! Interestingly, it tastes exactly like tom yum, yet it still has the sweet element of the coconut to mild it down, making it really palatable! The kaffir lime gives a pleasant citrus taste and a slight chewiness for a good contrast of flavours and textures. You can even chew on the lime peels for an extra touch of bitterness! A truly refreshing take on your typical coconut ice cream that’s certain to satisfy even those who aren’t really fans of tom tum!

For the Dark Chocolate Earl Grey, the gelato is thicker than your usual ice cream which might get jelak after a while. It would be recommended to share this flavour! The dark chocolate isn’t too bitter. with the earl grey giving sweetness for a good balance of flavours. The bitterness of dark chocolate comes through first, followed by the earl grey which leaves a delightful aftertaste!
