Katong Mei Wei Boneless Chicken Rice has free soup and achar
Katong Shopping Centre is a lowkey foodie haven, with the likes of Dona Manis’ famed banana pies and more calling it home. Katong Mei Wei Boneless Chicken Rice is another one of the mall’s food gems, drawing long queues for their generous portions, free double-boiled soup, and house-made achar. They’re also highly rated on Google and social media!

Housed in the mall’s basement, Katong Mei Wei Boneless Chicken Rice immediately stands out from the crowd with its long queue. Their bestseller is their Chicken Rice Set (from $6.70), which comes with a generous serving of steamed or roasted chicken, both drenched in their secret, sesame oil-laced sauce, and garnished with a smattering of crispy fried garlic.

Whether you’re team steamed or roasted, the stall executes both options with finesse, so expect tender, juicy meat and well-rendered skin.

The rice here also hits the spot, perfumed with ginger and chicken stock. The grains are fluffy and not too oily, so you won’t finish your meal feeling jelak.
The soup options are another reason why Katong Mei Wei Boneless Chicken Rice has such a strong fan base. Most average chicken rice stalls are content to serve up a thinner broth laced with MSG, but not here—the stall goes the extra mile to offer diners double-boiled Cantonese style soups, from a lotus root and pork rib option to a peppery chicken feet soup.

They also make their own achar—tangy, spicy, and refreshing, these are a fantastic accompaniment to the rich chicken rice.

Diners get to choose from a medley of side dishes they can add on to their meal, from braised egg ($0.90) to chicken feet (from $5.70). Also, if you’re a fan of char siew and shao rou, the stall offers both too, dressed in the same sauce they serve their chicken with. Prices start at $5.70 for individual portions of each. You can also add on char-siew or shao rou to your chicken rice set.
