Run by a husband-and-wife duo, Ms Nachatchadaporn Sirimueang and her husband started Pong Cheer Cheer Thai Food in 2018. Besides their current outlet at Defu Lane, they previously had another stall at Giant Tampines which ceased operations in 2019. Previously serving more Zhi Char style Thai dishes, they decided to make the switch to classic Thai dishes instead!

Pong Cheer Cheer’s Braised Pig Trotter Rice comes at a seriously affordable price of only $4! Alternatively, you can also order a whole trotter to share for $15! For the regular portion, sitting on a bed of fluffy white rice is a generous portion of succulent braised pig trotters, an egg, and homemade salted vegetables. The back thigh meat of the pig is used, ensuring it isn’t too fatty! The pig trotter is braised for four hours in a delicious gravy made with Thai spices and Chinese herbs. Additionally, dried shiitake mushrooms and Thai palm sugar are used to give the gravy a pleasant hint of sweetness.

The pig trotter is simply to die for, with the meat being super tender and flavourful, and the skin simply melting in your mouth with each bite! Be sure to have some of the flavourful gravy with your rice for the perfect pairing! Even a great deal of effort goes into the salted vegetables! Ms Nachatchadaporn prepares it herself using fresh caixin and cooks it with Chinese preserved olive vegetables. This makes them less salty as compared to the usual store-bought ones and they go great with the rice and meat!
