Wan Fen Chee Cheong Fun in East Coast
Chee cheong fun stalls seem to be a dime a dozen now, with Chef Wei HK Cheong Fun leading the way with 11 locations islandwide. Yet, I’m all but certain that most people would not have seen or tasted the flavours that Wan Fen Chee Cheong Fun offers. It’s been less than a fortnight since they opened at The Bullion Hawker Bar, so it might be a good idea to pay them a visit now before they get more popular.

Manning the stall is 23-year-old Hengyi, whose culinary pedigree includes time with French restaurant Les Amis. The rice rolls here are freshly steamed on order. Try the Wagyu Beef Chee Cheong Fun ($7.50)━a combination we haven’t seen at other CCF stalls.
The use of Australian Wagyu mince was inspired by beef hor fun and potentially adds a decadent, buttery flavour to Wan Fen Chee Cheong Fun’s dish.

Another uncommon offering on the menu is the Braised Pork Chee Cheong Fun ($5). The braised pork is shredded into small pieces before it is generously stuffed into the rolls of chee cheong fun. Pair this with a dollop of chilli for a savoury and spicy mouthful.

If you’re looking for vegetarian options, get the Zhai Er Chee Cheong Fun or You Tiao Chee Cheong Fun, both of which are priced at $3.50. The former features deep-fried beancurd skin, which is also known as mock goose, while the latter is the popular Hong Kong dim sum dish commonly referred to as zha leong.
Chee cheong fun purists will also be glad to know that traditional options such as Prawn Chee Cheong Fun ($5) and Char Siew Chee Cheong Fun ($4) are also available on the menu here.
