Levure Naturelle in Kallang Wave Mall has thick waffles with durian
If thick and chunky waffles are your jam, you have to check out Levure Naturelle. Located right next to Stadium MRT Station, in Kallang Wave Mall, this underrated bakery is frequented by those residing in the area, as well as avid sports players looking for a quick snack after training.
Here you’ll find an assortment of breads and cakes, baked on the premises. What draws in the crowd, however, are their thick waffles, freshly made to order. Unlike traditional pandan waffles, which lean thin and crispy, Levure Naturelle’s rendition is chonky and soft, with a slightly caramelised exterior. There’s no pandan fragrance here, but instead a discernible tinge of vanilla essence in the batter.
A classic flavour is the Peanut Butter ($2.20), generously stuffed with a sweet and salty peanut butter spread that oozes out with each bite. Other popular flavours include Kaya ($2.20), Strawberry ($2.20), and Chocolate ($2.20), though you can also choose to enjoy your waffle Plain ($1.70) as it’s slightly sweet on its own.
For an over-the-top combination, try the Chocolate Marshmallow ($2.70) waffle, which stars a sweet chocolate spread and mini marshmallows for an IG-worthy pull. Otherwise, Levure Naturelle also has a Durian ($3.50) waffle if you’re up for something more funky tasting.
Do note that the cut-off time for waffle-making is 8:25pm, so make sure you pop by earlier to get your waffle fix.
Another must-try waffle spot is Yi Jia Bakery House Cafe, an old-school cafe serving thick and delicious pandan waffles layered with house-made kaya. Otherwise, if you’re in Bishan, do check out The Bread Boutiq for their cheap $0.60 buns and freshly made waffles!
