Hidden within the two-storey Amoy Street Food Centre is Life Coffee, an unassuming establishment that appears to be a regular drinks stall at first. On closer look, you’ll notice its subtle Vietnamese flair, including an image of a Vietnamese conical hat on its signboard.

The straightforward menu features banh mi, Vietnamese drip coffee, and kaya toast sets. A Traditional Bread (Set) and Kaya Bread (Set) will set you back at $3.50 and $3.60 respectively, and both come with slices of toast, two half-boiled eggs, and a cup of hot coffee.

The Vietnamese Drip Coffee ($2.20 for hot, $2.80 for cold) is a must-try and comes with a metal drip filter. The coffee is said to be smooth and taste similar to the ones served in Vietnam. For something different, you can try their iced 4 Layers Coffee ($2.80) or Ribena Sparkling Soda ($2.60).

Aside from kaya toasts, the stall serves two kinds of banh mi— Banh Mi Ga ($5) and Banh Mi Sai Gon ($5), the former consisting of roasted chicken and the latter being a pork-stuffed baguette. Regulars love the flavourful sandwiches, packed with crunchy vegetables and juicy meat.
