Founded in 1940, the original Ah Yen originated from Sandakan — a small town in Sabah. Originally starting off as a small hawker stall in a wet market, the brand has since expanded to other parts of Malaysia and beyond to Singapore. A. family-run restaurant, the current owner, David Lee, is the son of Ah Yen.

A portion of the Sandakanan Fried Pork Rice with Fried Egg ($7.50) is tastefully presented with a fried egg blanketed over rice accompanied with a generous portion of fried pork belly. Thinly sliced to perfection, the tender slices of juicy pork belly are the ultimate star of the show at Ah Yen Traditional Fried Pork. Each bite rewards with a satisfying crunch and a robust burst of flavours in every mouthful.

Consider opting for their chicken rice for its aromatic flavours of sesame, shallots, and lard. Add a scoop of their homemade chilli into the mix to elevate the dish. Another menu option that caught our fancy is the Sandakanan Fried Pork Kway Teow ($6.50). The rich pork broth features thin strands of kway teow and batter-coated fried pork. Choose to add on to your meal with value-for-money side dishes.
