Yong Seng Satay is currently run by Mdm Poo Chen Nee and her husband, who are the third-generation owners. Started by her grandfather, he first started selling satay from a pushcart along the Bugis junction area before relocating to Jurong Kecil in 1964.

The stall then moved again in 1970 to Bukit Timah Food Centre and has remained there since. Fun fact, according to Mdm Poo, it was actually her father who first came up with putting pineapple puree in the satay sauce. Looks like we have him to thank!
Amazing Satays To Enjoy!

Starting with the Chicken Satay ($0.70 per stick), the meat is tender and slightly fatty, with the marinade giving a nice sweet and savoury flavour. Despite there being a slight char, it could definitely use more of it for the added layers of smokiness and crispiness from the charred bits.

As for the Mutton Satay ($0.70 per stick), the meat is well-marinated and has a slight sweetness and kick of heat to it. Although it isn’t too gamey, the meat is slightly tough which is a tad disappointing. It does however have a nice smokiness to it and is smokier as compared to the chicken satay.

Lastly for the Pork Satay ($0.70 per stick), it is definitely the best out of the three. The meat is tender and has a beautiful layer of fats that simply melts in your mouth. Additionally, it also has the most char of the three, adding an amazing smokiness and crispiness to each bite.

As for the peanut sauce, it is thick and grainy, allowing you to enjoy the texture of the peanuts. It has a pleasant peanut flavour and the pineapple puree adds an extra layer of sweetness and zing, giving a delightful brightness to the sauce. The puree does however slightly mellow down the flavour of the peanut which might not appeal to some purists of peanut sauce. Furthermore, a little kick of heat would have helped to tie the flavours together.
