Tucked away at Kebun Baru Market and Food Centre, Hock Kee has been a popular go-to spot for the residents there for the last 30 years! Even till now, the standard and taste have remained the same, giving a taste of nostalgia with every bite! Those who grew up eating this will probably feel like a kid again every time they have this tasty dish! The queues usually form really quickly and cease only close to their closing timing. A pretty good indication of how popular their food is!

Hock Kee’s Wanton Noodles ($3) comes with perfectly cooked noodles that are springy and have none of that alkene taste to it. It’s definitely something not all stalls have achieved making it a plus point for Hock Kee! Additionally, the noodles hold up the sauce well, ensuring you have a mouthful of flavour with every bite! To elevate the dish, crispy pork lard is added to give a nice touch of depth and texture to the noodles. Hock Kee’s char siew however, isn’t the best, with it being slightly tough and dry.
The star of the dish, as it should be, is definitely the wantons! Hock Kee’s wantons are plump and have the perfect ratio of skin to filling. Every wanton is packed with flavour, with a kick of pepperiness to make every bite super shiok! Though Hock Kee isn’t the best wanton mee out there, for only $3, there really isn’t much to complain about. Definitely still a dish worth trying for its price point!
