Hainanese High Tea set at The Hainan Story
Most of us love the chi-chi high tea life, but with dining restrictions, reduced seating capacities, and all that, it can be really hard to book a high tea session with your friends. The Hainan Story at Hotel Boss is about to change things up, with a Hainanese High Tea set that will be available 24/7!

The Hainan Story at Hotel Boss is the brand’s second concept, after their first multi-brand opening at Hillion Mall in Bukit Panjang. Of the two, The Hainan Story’s Jalan Sultan outlet is open 24 hours daily, offering Hainanese-style comfort food, including Swiss rolls and cookies by ex-Antoinette head chef, Chef Pang, Hainanese kopi and toast, satay and more.

The Hainanese High Tea set ($19.90 per person) is their latest 24/7 offering that’s said to be the first of its kind in Singapore. Do note that it’s only available for dine-in guests, and a minimum of two diners is required to enjoy the set.

Each three-tiered high tea set comes with Hainanese teatime favourites and your choice of a hot beverage. You’ll get a selection of Chef Pang’s Swiss rolls and cookies, and honey toast cubes, as well as yibua—a Hainanese steamed dumpling that you’ll traditionally get at weddings and during babies’ one-month-old celebrations.

If you didn’t know, yibua are typically made with glutinous rice and sweet potato flour, filled with palm sugar, jaggery red sugar, grated coconut, ginger, and crushed, roasted peanuts.

Other than the sweets, the high tea set also includes Crispy Prawn Fritters, Hainanese Har Chou, and Hainanese Yuan Yang Satay. The satay is served in both pork and chicken options, paired with their house special satay sauce, which has a surprising addition of grated pineapple!

Of course, if you’re looking for more sweets to end the meal, order yourself some Beary Nice Summer Dessert ($5.90), which enjoys a reputation as the King of Hainan Island. The version at The Hainan Story comes a base of coconut water, with yam balls, red kidney beans, pearl sago, coconut jelly, and honey sea coconut, all of which is topped with shaved coconut ice, and a frozen ice bear that’s made of coconut water and coconut ice cream.
For now, the round-the-clock high tea set is only available at The Hainan Story at Hotel Boss, but it waits to be seen if they will be extending the same to their other outlet at Hillion Mall, bringing Westies some middle-of-the-night treats as well.
