Those who frequent the Orchard area will be familiar with The Community Coffee, which first started in 2017, serving $4 at Far East Plaza.

The dim interior with neon lights and an industrial touch there was the complete opposite of their new outlet here along Upper Cross Street in Chinatown.

Over here at their new space, the 19 seaters space is more spacious and has a “MUJI-like” touch, mainly decked in white and wooden elements with bar counter seats, sofa and a long banquette bench lining against the wall.

With a bigger space, the folks at The Community Coffee is now able to accommodate their coffee roaster machine under the same roof.

Diners can get to watch the roasting process through the glass panels and smell the coffee beans during the roasting process.

Similar to their sister outlet at Far East Plaza, their menu is streamlined to offer only single origin coffee beans roasted by in-house.

2 single origins are offered on their menu for their espresso-based drinks, namely Peru and Colombia.

Prices start from $5.50 for a cup of Double Espresso and $5 for a 5oz espresso with Milk.

My cup of Flat White ($5) using single origin beans from Colombia was medium-bodied, smooth with a medium roast, with hints of yuzu and plum with a sweet finish.

Unlike the usually taste profile of Colombia coffee beans, Caturra trees were grown by the Colombian producer, which undergoes a classic fully-washed process thereafter.

The Cold White ($7) comes with double espresso shot and was stronger, intense and more robust.

On the other hand, the coffee beans from Peru have a sweeter profile, with hints of dried apricot, lychee and honeysuckle.

Sourced from family-run coffee farms with their own micro mill and drying facilities, the people at The Community Coffee slow the roasting process to emphasise on the flavours rather than highlighting the acidity, resulting in a ripe/dried apricot acidity feel on the palate.

Aeropress ($5) and V60 pour over ($6.50) are also available for the serious coffee drinkers, who wished to fully appreciate the tasting notes extracted from the single origin coffee beans.

Alternatively, patrons can look forward to their House Specials: Tasting Flight ($13) of 3 newest coffee per month, Espresso Colada ($9) with coconut, pineapple and cherries, Espresso Martino ($8) using non-alcoholic gin & earl grey and Cascara Iced Tea ($7).
