Café in the day, bar at night, Stay Gold Flamingo is the latest addition to the CBD district in Singapore at Tanjong Pagar.
Talk about Amoy Street, and what will come to mind would be Amoy Street Food Centre.
Located diagonally across LUNA and The Bravery along Amoy Street, Stay Gold Flamingo is a combination of 2 concepts under the same roof.
Flamingo is the name of the cafe concept, which has a fun and vibrant image whereas the bar is named Stay Gold, inspired by a 1980s film, The Outsiders, known for the song – Stay Gold by Stevie Wong.
Opened from 10am to 5pm daily and can sit 20 pax at its maximum capacity, Flamingo has a casual setting equipped with a long banquette bench.
The mini bar section is designed with red bricks, giving off a warm and cosy vibe.
The main bar area which is at the rear end of Flamingo is named Stay Gold, and starts operating after 5pm, accommodating another 90 pax.
Currently, the cafe-concept Flamingo is serving a streamlined menu with Granola ($10), Sandwich ($12- $14), Pastries ($5 – $8) and Artisanal Coffee ($4 – $6).
The selection of pastries are outsourced and include Butter Croissant ($5), Escargot Raisin ($7), Gourmandaise ($7), Tartlet Citron ($8) and Raspberry Macaroon ($8).
My favourite was the Raspberry Macaroon ($8), an upsized version of a macaron about the size of a latte cup.
A generous layer of citrusy and refreshing raspberry jam is sandwiched in between 2 layers of crumbly macaron shells which has the right balance of flavours and textures.
The Tartlet Citron ($8) is a safe option with a citrusy and sour punch encased within a cookie tart shell.
This will be a tough competition against LUNA diagonally opposite as they serve a wider selection of interesting tart options: Goma x PB, Sea Salt Noir Dark Chocolate, Pistachio Raspberry, Yuzu Meringue Cheese, Hojicha-Kōhī, Wild Strawberry Earl Grey and Tarte au Tropicale.
Using a 2-beans blend (Brazil, Ethiopia) from Cumulo Coffee, diners can look forward to Black ($4), White ($5) and Mocha ($6), with iced drinks at an additional $1.
My cup of Flat White ($5) was unfortunately burnt, leaving an astringent taste.
Their strength still lies in their alcoholic drinks, with a small selection at Flamingo and a wider range over at Stay Gold after 5pm.
