SANDOWICHI SINGAPORE

Sandowichi for onigirazu in Bugis

Move aside, sando; there’s a new kid in town—onigirazu. Recently launched at Bugis Junction is Sandowichi, a takeaway-only specialty store that does Okinawa-inspired onigirazu. These Japanese-style rice sandwiches come in a variety of fillings, and are cut into halves to reveal an IG-worthy centre.

While no dine-in is available at the moment, the specialty store currently offers islandwide delivery via Oddle, GrabFood, Foodpanda, and Deliveroo. You can also opt to self-collect at Kogane Yama, which is located in Bugis Junction.

The onigiri sandwiches come in flavours such as Supamu ($10.90), which contains grilled pork spam, torched mentai mayo, tamago, cucumber Japanese rice, and nori seaweed. There’s also the Suki-yaki ($10.90), a meaty rendition featuring Yakiniku beef and spring onion. If you’re planning to go meat-free, try the Nasu ($8.90), a veggie-friendly option with tempura eggplant and tendon sauce.

You can also customise your rice sandwich by adding on a variety of toppings, including unagi ($2.40), and fried salmon patty ($2.40).

On top of rice sandwiches, the online store offers a decent selection of sides to go along with your onigirazu. Opt for the Spam Fries ($7.90), which are coated with Panko breadcrumbs, and the Kani Tempura ($5.90): deep-fried crab sticks served with Kewpie mayo.

If you’re feeling peckish, there’s a 1 Pax Onigirazu Bundle ($18.50) that comes with one onigirazu of your choice, one side, and one canned drink. For more bang for your buck, share the 4 Pax Onigirazu Bundle ($66.50), which gets you four onigirazu, two sides, and four beverages.
