Pan mee, or ban mian, is one of my all-time favourite dishes—bonus points if the noodles are handmade. One place that seems to tick all the boxes is Prince Noodles, an under-the-radar eatery in Jalan Besar. This noodle joint serves handmade QQ ban mian tossed in an umami-laden chilli sauce, piled high with minced pork, fried anchovies, fried shallots, and various other toppings.

Located a short seven-minute walk from Bendemeer MRT Station, the air-conditioned eatery specialises in KL-style noodles. While most run-of-the-mill ban mian stalls in Singapore source their noodles from external suppliers, the carbs here are handmade to order.

Regulars love their QQ noodles, tossed in a secret sauce that’s sweet and savoury. Mix in some of their punchy house-made chilli paste if you can take the heat, but be warned that it’s said to be very spicy.

Get the Dry Noodles ($5.50/$6.50) with Ban Mian, You Mian, or Mee Hoon Kueh. The pan mee is also said to taste similar to what you’d get in Malaysia. Prince Noodles even uses sayur manis vegetables—authentic to KL-style noodles!

Alternatively, go for the Soup ($5.50/$6.50) version if you prefer something healthier, as the broth is on the lighter end. We recommend pairing it with their handmade mee hoon kueh as it’s irregularly shaped, so you get that satisfyingly soft and chewy bite with each spoonful.
One tip: this stall gets packed with nearby office workers during lunchtime, so it’s best to visit during off-peak hours!
After a satisfying meal of Malaysian-style pan mee, take a short four-minute walk to La Levain for some post-meal pastries and coffee.
Another legit pan mee stall worth trying is The Noodle Memories, run by two young KL-born hawkers. For something a little different, head to Greenview Cafe in Far East Plaza for their fried mee hoon kueh.
