Opened by the folks behind popular Muslim-owned cafe Royz et Vous with outlets at Telok Ayer and Sultan Gate, Pancake Place is the newest concept-store at Kandahar Street near Bugis.
Royz et Vous first started off in Bali Lane in 2014 before moving out to Telok Ayer and subsequently opened another outlet back at the Kampong Gelam in 2019.
2 years later, they had now opened Pancake Place just 100m away from their sister cafe.
Their interior is decked in bright colours, with yellow and green cushioned seats and can accommodate 40 pax indoors and 12 pax outdoors.
Serving only pancakes on their menu, think 14 different sweet and savoury options with assorted toppings.
Prices are on the higher side starting from $15.90 for savoury pancakes and $16.90 for sweet options, excluding GST and service charge.
From their savoury menu, think Salmon Royale ($21.90), Chilli Beef & Sausage ($15.90), Crispy Chicken ($16.90), Grilled Tiger Prawn ($19.90), Ham & Cheese ($21.90) and Lemak Duck ($17.90).
The Grilled Tiger Prawn ($19.90++) comes with four black tiger prawns marinated and grilled to give it a light and smokey flavour, drizzled with generous amount of spicy cream sauce sprinkled with chilli powder, few strands of baby spinach and tater tots on the side.
Using the same pancake base for all their dishes, the differentiating factor is the toppings used, and in this case, the spicy cream sauce is the highlight.
Packed with a spicy kick with saltiness and sweetness in the cream sauce, it is quite addictive with a similar taste as the “Hae Bi Hiam” crackers.
The sweetness from the pancakes balances well with the spiciness of the cream sauce, adding more complexity to the dish.
The sweets menu feature another 6 different pancakes, namely Mango De Coco ($18.90), Cempedak Creme Brûlée ($16.90), Blackforest ($18.90), Blueberry Cheese ($19.90), Smores ($16.90) and Tiramisu ($17.90).
The Cempedak Creme Brûlée ($16.90) seems the most exotic flavour among the rest, topped with chempedak custard with the real chempedak flesh, strawberries and blueberries and a caramelised layer on top.
Cempedak lovers will enjoy this dessert with the generous amount of smooth fruit custard, complemented by the layer of crispy and crunchy caramelised sugar on top that contributes to the sweetness.
With the chempedak custard evenly applied in between the layers of soft, fluffy pancakes, diners can enjoy the sweetness and fruitiness in each bite.
In addition, Pancake Place also offers Kids Menu with options of Oreo Sugar Rush ($8.90) and Classic Jr ($6.90) that each comes with a single piece of pancake.
There is also an option to add on additional toppings such as Gelato (Single $4.90 – $5.90/ Double $7.90 – $8.90), Sauce ($2 – $5) and Fruits ($3).
Apart from Pancakes, their beverage menu features a selection of interesting drinks such as Over-The-Top Milkshakes ($13.90 – $14.90), Smoothies ($7.90 – $8.90), Specialty Earl grey Tea ($4.90 – $5.90), Coffee ($4 – $5) and Tea ($6).
