When you think of Old Airport Road, what do you think of? Nam Sing’s Hokkien Mee, Lao Fu Zi’s Char Kway Teow, and Xing Li’s Oyster Omelette?

It’s true that those stalls have made a name for themselves over the years, as the queues and numerous Instagram posts can attest to. But they’re not the only stalls worth visiting at Old Airport Road if you’re craving orh luat or char kway teow.

Introducing The No Name Stall at Old Airport Road Food Centre – #01-26!

Nestled between a chicken rice stall and a western food stall, #01-26 has been serving carrot cake, oyster omelette and hokkien mee for decades! And even though it isn’t as well-publicised on the Internet as Xing Li or Nam Sing, the locals definitely know its worth. Come here during lunch or dinner, and you’ll see customers crowded around the stall front, watching the hawker uncle fry up a delicious-smelling wok speciality.

The stall is run by a friendly old couple and is best known for its oyster omelette and (white) fried carrot cake, but it also does hokkien mee, char kway teow, mee goreng and fried rice.

White Carrot Cake

The white carrot cake is our favourite item from this stall. (Take note that #01-26 doesn’t do a black version – just a white one!)

Uncle is generous with the egg – which is fried till crisp at the edges – and the kueh itself is savoury without being over-salty. The little bits of garlic permeate the dish with a fragrance that makes your mouth water even before you take a bite, and when you do, the flavours melt into each other in a perfect symphony of steaming, savoury goodness.

Oyster Omelette

#01-26’s oyster omelette, or orh luat, is our other favourite. Uncle first pours the flour batter into the wok, and then tips in eggs on top of it before finally adding the marquee oysters. The stall front is fitted with a transparent glass panel, so you can watch him expertly toss the omelette before serving it up to you, still steaming, on one of his bright-orange plates.

Much like the fried carrot cake, the omelette has a nice crisped edge to it, with a good texture to the battered, softer inside. And the oysters are huge – fresh, plump, and juicy. Pair it with the chilli, and you can finish an entire plate by yourself.

#01-26’s oyster omelette has previously been dubbed one of the best oyster omelettes in Singapore, so you know we’re telling the truth when we say it’s good!

Hokkien Mee

#01-26’s hokkien mee is the traditional sort, stir-fried yellow noodles with thick bee hoon. It’s a lighter version of hokkien mee than Nam Sing’s (if you’ve tried that), not as rich or as heavy. It comes with fish cake, prawns, and squid, as well as a generous dollop of sambal belacan. It’s also a drier version of hokkien mee, but there’s enough gravy to coat the noodles well and ensure that they’re totally slurpable!

Mee Goreng, Char Kway Teow, Fried Rice

Other than these three most popular items, the stall also sells fried rice, mee goreng and char kway teow.

But don’t get your hopes up about trying the fried rice: it’s always gone after lunchtime. (Speaking from painful experience! It wasn’t available when we went down, either.)

Overall, it’s one of our favourite stalls at Old Airport, and criminally underrated.

The next time you find yourself at Old Airport, why don’t you give it a try?
