Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice in Ang Mo Kio
After 30 long years in Tiong Bahru Food Centre, Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice has been trying to increase its accessibility in the heartlands. Unveiling its third outlet in three months, the famous Hainanese chicken rice stall helmed by Mr Cheong Weng Wah recently opened in Food Loft along Ang Mo Kio Avenue 4.

The chicken rice stall is known for its fragrant and fluffy rice, which according to Mr Cheong is attributed to the added ingredient of onions. Their signature Steamed Chicken ($3), also known as white chicken in Chinese, is soaked in ice water after cooking to keep the meat tender and juicy. Pair this with their tangy chilli sauce and savoury ginger sauce for the perfect bite.

Chicken rice lovers who prefer the roasted rendition to the steamed version can also order the Roasted Chicken Rice ($3.50). If you’re feeling extra hungry, the Duo Chicken Rice ($5) enables you to enjoy the best of both worlds and taste both steamed and roasted chicken. You can also add on a side dish of Bean Sprouts ($3) or Chicken Gizzards ($2) for sharing. Their Handmade Wu Xiang ($3) is also extremely popular.

A testament to its high standards, Tiong Bahru Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice has received the Michelin Bib Gourmand for six consecutive years. Fans living in Marsiling, Tampines, and now Ang Mo Kio can enjoy their chicken rice without travelling too far from home.

Despite bearing the same name, the stalls in Chinatown and Changi Village are actually operated by the owner’s older brother. These two outlets use a recipe similar to the original, so it’s no wonder that they receive patronage from both locals and tourists alike. With stalls in the Northern, Southern, and Eastern parts of the island, here’s hoping that they’ll expand to the West soon too.
