Ice cream cafes are sprouting out all over Singapore, and some of the newer names include Apiary (Ang Mo Kio), Inside Scoop (North Bridge Road) and Foursome Ice Cream & Waffle (Upper Thomson).
Kind Kones first caught my attention as being Singapore’s first (and probably only) all-natural vegan ice cream café and brand, located at the basement of Forum The Shopping Mall.
It will be opening its second outlet at Orchard Paragon basement sometime during April 2021.
Some introduction: Kind Kones’ ice creams are vegan and free from dairy, egg, refined sugar, and other artificial additives with mostly gluten-free options.
The cafe also serves a selection of desserts that are healthier alternatives to conventional versions usually higher in sugar and fats.
Some of the rotating choices include Flourless Sweet Potato Brownie, Dark Chocolate Ganache Cake, Lemon Raspberry Cake, Midnight Lava Cake and Walnut Carrot Cake. All GF aka gluten-free.
Also included are healthier and delicious pies, such as Spiced Apple Pie and Pistachio Chocolate Pie.
They will also be introducing two special flavours during the launch of the new Paragon outlet – Coffee Chocolate Fudge Swirl and Smoked Pineapple Pink Peppercorn.
Their single standard ice cream flavour goes for a $4.90 per scoop ($6.50 for standard, $6.90 for premium), slightly higher than the conventional Singapore ice cream stores.
Also perhaps they are located at town area.
Some of the flavours I spotted include Banana Walnut, Passionfruit Sorbet, Black Forest, Earl Grey Boba Mylk Tea, Charcoal Vanilla, Madagascan Vanilla, Pandan, and Chocolate Hazelnut & Vanilla Duo.
If you are going with the best-sellers, they are the Almond Brittle Fudge and Salted Chocolate Chip.
My pick would be the Blue Planet (for obvious reasons) which gets its colour from butterfly pea flower. The ice cream made up of coconut milk, cashew milk, almond milk vanilla and matcha cake.
What I enjoyed about their ice cream other than the guilt-free factor, is that taste is not compromised.
Some ice cream brands may have their sweetness overpowering everything else, but here the flavours of some of the key ingredients shine through.
There is something about its texture as well, to the denser side, but still smooth with full-bodied mouthfeel (though not as wet-creamy that some would prefer).
Some of their flavours get some getting used to, such as the Keto Avocado Coconut, and a friend thought it tasted too ‘healthy’ and perhaps bland. But this is what you get.
Kudos to them making ice creams taste just as good as traditional dairy ice creams without compromising taste and flavour.
Good news for those who crave for sweet treats after that gym workout, but don’t want to over indulge as well.
