Honolulu Cafe has handmade taro tarts and buns

Those who truly love taro will know where to find the best orh nee desserts in Singapore. Another spot to add to the list is Honolulu Cafe, a cha chaan teng AKA Hong Kong-style cafe in Singapore. They’ve recently launched two new taro-themed items on the menu: handmade Crispy Taro Tart and Crispy Taro Egg Tart

Combine mildly sweet taro filling and a crispy tart shell, and you get the Crispy Taro Tart priced at $3.90 each.

If you’re all about the orh nee, you’ll surely find their Crispy Taro Tart to your liking. It’s substantially packed with yam paste, and some online reviews point to the fact that the texture of the filling is on the chunkier side.

For something a little different, opt for their handmade Taro Crispy Egg Tart ($3.90) instead. It features a layer of taro paste along with a smooth custard encased in a buttery and flaky crust, and you get a beautiful contrast of yellow and lilac colours in a single tart.

Since we’re on the topic of egg tarts, take note that there are other flavours, including the Honolulu Egg Tart ($2.30), and Beancurd Tart ($2.30). The latter is served cold and must be refrigerated at all times.

Back to taro-themed bakes: there’s also the popular handmade Taro Bun ($3) for you to try. Each fluffy bun brims with a creamy yam paste, striking a good balance of earthy and sweet flavours. It’s also topped with a swirl of orh nee!

If you’ve had enough of taro, we recommend their Char Siew Polo Bun at $2.30 each. This bun is worth every cent as it’s loaded with meat chunks, and char siew sauce. A great breakfast choice, might we add!
