The newest wave of cafes this year has got to be the most sophisticated. We have moved past the gimmicky themed cafes and are headed straight for serious coffee spots. Think Suzuki Factory Cafe, Chin Mee Chin Confectionery and more. Joining the fray is the newly opened Haven Coffee at Tanjong Pagar, owned by an ex-%Arabica Coffee barista.

They mean business with their selection of espresso-based drinks with a choice of house-blend and single-origin beans. They are priced from $4.50 to $7, with drinks such as Black ($5), Mocha ($7), and even a Dirty Matcha ($7).

For filtered coffees, single-origin ones are from either Ethiopia or Columbia, both of which use the popular arabica beans. Coffee lovers can also look forward to the monthly or bi-monthly rotation of single-origin beans!

Those who prefer tea over coffee can try their 70% Dark Cocoa ($6) as well as Uji Matcha Latte ($6). There’s also a unique Strawberry Matcha Latte ($8), showcasing beautiful layers or pink, green, and white.

Foodies are not left out at Haven Coffee, as they also serve pastries and toasties from a local bakery—The Bakehaus. Try their Scrambled Eggs Croissant ($11) and Ham & Cheese Croissant ($12), or opt for the sourdough version that’s priced at $12 and $14 instead.

There is also a range of tartelettes such as chocolate ($7), framboise (raspberry) ($7.50), and citron ($7.80) for those looking for something sweet. Classic French pastries such as buttery Kouign Amann ($6) and bittersweet Pain Au Chocolate ($4.50) are also available.

Though the space at Tanjong Pagar is small, their caffeine-filled drinks are mighty. The ambience shouts old-school minimalism with plain walls and white furniture, signalling a fuss-free dining experience at Haven Coffee.
