Casual Mexican food is gaining traction in Singapore, and Guzman Y Gomez (GYG) is probably one of the well-known brands in Singapore.
The casual dining concept with Latin flair is known for serving modern Mexican favourites like burrito, quesadilla, tacos, and nachos.
Interestingly, the chain was started in Australia by a New Yorker Steven Marks, and its first store was opened in Newtown, Sydney in 2006.
It came over to Singapore in 2013, and outlets here include Asia Square Tower 2, Funan, Guoco Tower, Mapletree Business City, Funan, Northpoint City, Novena Square, Ocean Financial Centre, Orchard Gateway, Serene Centre, Tampines Hub and The Star Vista.
Combining the Latin experience in their food, music, art and vibe, their strategic location in CBDs and near the offices had attracted a steady crowd.
Dishes are all made-to-order with ingredients prepared fresh daily, and great for takeaways as well.
Offerings include Burritos ($7.90/10.90), Burrito Bowls ($10.90), Nachos ($13.50), Quesadillas (2 for $8.50, 3 for $10.90) and Tacos (2 for $8.50, 3 for $11.50)
With a choice of grilled chicken/ steak, roasted beef/ pork, barramundi or sautéed vegetables for fillings, each Burrito ($7.90 for mini, $10.90 for regular)is packed with a generous amount of fillings and manually rolled in a soft tortilla wrap.
Try their famous $3 Taco, a chipotle-seasoned hard-shell taco filled with Australian minced beef. Adding flavours and textures are shredded iceberg lettuce and Australian Jack cheese.
Another popular choice is the Burrito Bowl ($10.90 for reg, $7.90 for mini).
Choose from a variety of fillings, ranging from the mild to spicy chicken to pulled pork and beef, to vegetarian-friendly tofu ranchero (natural bean tofu stewed with tomatoes, corn, pepper, chillies and spices.)
They also offer brown rice as healthier option.
For nibbles, recommended is some Nachos ($13.50 for regular, $8.50 for mini) made with GYG’s corn chips, melted Australian Jack cheese, vegetarian black beans, salsa, guacamole and filling.
Get your crispy corn chips topped with slow-roasted and tender hand-pulled beef, seasoned with GYG’s Guerrero marinade.
