Gokoku Japanese Bakery has new VivoCity outlet
Gokoku is one of our favourite Japanese bakeries in Singapore, and they’ve been on a roll this year. In September, they opened their eight outlet in Wisma Atria, and following that, they’ve just announced their ninth bakery, located in VivoCity.
Gokoku VivoCity will be right next to an all-new Sushi-GO outlet, so you can grab dinner, and then breakfast for the next day without having to travel too far. For those who’ve yet to try Gokoku, they’re a bakery from Kobe that has been around since 1961, and they’re best known for preparing bread, buns, and pastries with Japanese ingredients and techniques.
If you’re looking for healthier picks to enjoy with spreads such as kaya or butter, we recommend their signature Gokoku Shichifuku Pan ($2.40), a fibre-rich, chewy bread that’s a great start to your day. Otherwise, the Malt Kurumi Pan ($2.40), power-packed with walnuts, malt, oatmeal, and soybeans, is another hearty bun full of good-for-you ingredients.
However, we know going to a Japanese bakery is also a treat-yourself moment, so it’s worth noting that Gokoku has an equally impressive selection of sweet bakes. Their Signature Red Bean Anpan ($2.60) is a must-try for azuki lovers, with a solid filling-to-bun ratio. The azuki red beans are also sourced from Hokkaido.
Mochi bakes have been a huge trend of late, and Gokoku has a few must-tries. Though not technically made with mochi, the Mochi Mochi Cheese ($2.80) is a savoury delight that nonetheless has a similar QQ texture, starring a wheat bun that is super chewy and studded with pieces of cheese. The Mochi Mochi Cranberry ($2.30) is another bestseller, this time dotted with bits of dried fruit.

To celebrate its new opening, the bakery will be giving away 80 limited edition tote bags a day from 3 November to 7 November, as long as you spend $20 in a single receipt. That’s more incentive to carb up, in our opinion.
