Lately, we have been seeing so many new ice cream and gelato shops opening in every corner of Singapore.
Granted, Singapore’s hot and humid weather is the perfect excuse for having the cold treat, be it in the form of ice cream, gelato or soft-serve.
Recent openings include Three Point Two (Kampong Bahru), No Horse Run (Yishun), ChuLaTo (Serangoon Gardens), Lick D Cream (Bedok). Momolato (Haji Lane), Kind Kones (Orchard Paragon) and Apiary (Ang Mo Kio).
Are we that HOT?
Dimanche 49 is the latest brainchild of The Local Bakers which started off as an online business and pop-ups.
It finally has a permanent store at Beauty World Bukit Timah. (Also read: 10 Beauty World Food Centre Stalls)
Unlike most ice cream shop where they serve just the scoops of gelato in a cup of cone, Dimanche 49 serves deconstructed desserts in a cup.
Priced at $7 a cup, flavours include Wild Strawberries, Ispahan, Black Forest, Tiramisu and Praline and comes with various fixed complimentary toppings and a scoop of homemade gelato to complete the dessert.
Each cup is freshly made upon order.
The Tiramisu came with a scoop of burnt coffee gelato, mascarpone, cocoa powder and Kahlua (coffee liqueur) in a takeaway cup, topped with a single ladyfinger (sweet sponge biscuits).
The burnt coffee gelato had a smooth and creamy texture, robust and intense with espresso flavour.
Together with the toppings and a ladyfinger that can be used for dipping into the gelato, the various components combined together tasted just like a tiramisu in a cup.
The Ispahan was my favourite, complete with a scoop of lychee sorbet, crushed rose macaron, raspberry compote, lychee flesh and rose petals.
It was floral and refreshing, well-balanced with the citrus punch from the raspberry compote and the sweet lychee sorbet that was smooth and non-icy.
It is refreshing for a change with gelato shops serving a more refined dessert instead of the usual round scoops.
