Another new cafe has joined the Little India community in addition to the recent opening of Three’s A Crowd and Main Street Commissary.
Not just a normal cafe, Cookie & Cuddle is a dog-cuddling cafe with 3 resident dogs from the Chi-Poo breed (chihuahua and poodle mix breed).
Note that no outside dogs are allowed into the compound.
The 3 resident dogs are Cookie, Cuddle (a pair of siblings) and Kiki, thus the name of the cafe.
The cafe is separated into a playpen and a 10-seaters dining area.
Customers can enter the playpen to interact with the dogs in the future; not now as they are still currently undergoing acclimatisation to the premise.
Pardon for the lack of photos of these cute resident dogs as I was only allowed to stand around the playpen (I was informed that only media personnel are allowed to cuddle them. Oh well.)
Using a 2-beans-blend from Peru and Honduras, roasted by Allpress for their espresso-based drinks, their drinks menu features the Espresso ($3), Macchiato ($3.50), Black ($4.50) and White ($5).
My cup of White ($5) was well-executed and included a single espresso shot with double ristretto, served with a piece of chilled brownie for the chewy texture.
The White ($5) was medium bodied with a dark roast, smooth, slightly citrusy with a milk chocolate taste and quite robust in flavours.
Non-espresso drinks include Chocolate ($6), Pot of Tea ($6) and MasaLatte ($6) – spiced tea latte.
Light bites such as Brownie ($5.50) are available in 3 different flavours: Cookie Dough, Dark Chunk and Classic, Dark Chocolate and White Chocolate Cookie ($4) and the Doggyaki Set ($12) are all freshly made in-house.
In line with their dog theme, their signature item is their Doggyaki Set ($12) that comes with 2 scoops of ice cream: cookie & cream/ cookie butter ice cream (chosen because their dog is named Cookie) and a bone made of dark chocolate.
“Doggyaki” is a play of the words: Dog and Taiyaki (a Japanese fish-shaped cake), with a shape of the French bulldog’s head.
Using a mochi batter for the chewiness, 2 different fillings are available: Japanese Red Bean and Kinako (soybean flour).
While the ice cream are decent in flavours, the Kinako Doggyaki served in the set tends to be more doughy and starchy, lacking a good texture.
Currently, you can only have the “cookie’ and not the ‘cuddle’ at Cookie & Cuddle, which is the highlight of a pet cafe and I will only recommend to head there when they allow non-media personnels to interact with the resident dogs.
