Ceres Haus has thick sourdough sandwiches at Circular Road
If you’re a coffee addict by day and a wine drinker by night, we’ve got news for you: Ceres Haus is the newest addition to the plethora of aesthetic cafes in Boat Quay. The minimalist cafe serves coffee and light bites while the sun is up, and transforms into a hidden speakeasy bar in the evening.
It’s easy to miss this cafe if you aren’t actively searching for it. Walk up a flight of stairs at one of the shophouses along Circular Road, and you’ll come across a door with an opening that offers a sneak peek of the inside.
As you enter, you’ll notice how dimly lit the space is. The cafe has a few communal areas for sitting, as well as an open-concept kitchen and low benches for customers working on their laptops.
Ceres Haus has a lean daytime menu, featuring coffee options with the likes of Espresso ($4+) and White ($5.50+). Since we were here for breakfast, we decided to order the Mocha ($6+) to go along with some small bites.
For munchies, they’ve got Madeleines ($6+ for three pieces), which are baked upon order and dusted with sweet icing powder before serving. The madeleines were pillowy-soft during our visit, and I couldn’t resist dipping them into the chocolatey mocha.
The cafe also serves breakfast and brunch plates, including the Avo Sourdough ($12+) and Sweet ($14+). The latter comprises a plate of house-made whipped butter, sliced cheese, plum jam, and marmalade, served alongside four slices of sourdough. Baked by a friend of the cafe owners, the sourdough had a super crispy crust with just a hint of tang.
We also tried the Ham N Cheese Sandwich ($16+), featuring thick sourdough packed with champagne ham slices, melted cheese, and cherry tomatoes, served with the same whipped butter and house-made jam on the side.
If you’re here during the evening, feel free to ask for their alcohol menu and try out their selection of Orange, White, or Red wines, priced from $16 a glass.
