Famous Japanese bakery CATBAKE opens in Star Vista

Singaporeans love Japanese bakes—recall the recent buzz over the viral cake-in-a-can vending machines and their local debut, as well as the Donq Bakery matcha lava bun craze. If you count yourself amongst this carb lovin’ crowd, then get hyped as CATBAKE is now open in The Star Vista, Singapore.

CATBAKE is the first cat-themed Japanese bakery launched by the acclaimed Hokkaido patissier and chef Shinya Tajima. You may have heard of him because he’s the man behind the famous Neko Neko Shokupan, a cat-themed bun that sent Japan into a tizzy over how adorable it looks. CATBAKE promises more neko-themed treats across its menu, ranging from sweets to savouries. This is also chef Tajima’s first foray outside of Japan.

Located in basement one of The Star Vista, CATBAKE has an extensive selection of baked treats. If you love jiggly Japanese cheesecake, then be sure to get your hands on their unique Cat Cheesecake. Not only is the cake moulded to look like a cat’s head, but it is also texturally unique. Unlike the usual, uniformly pillowy Japanese cheesecake, CATBAKE’s rendition combines two different cheesecake textures and a crumb base.

If you love rich chocolate cakes, go straight for the Cat Chocolate Cake, available in two flavours: Original, and Dark.

Another highly recommended item is the Croc Monsieur, which takes the classic French ham-and-cheese grilled sandwich, and elevates it with Japanese elements.

Aside from the items above, CATBAKE will also offer dine-in seats should you choose to enjoy their bakes in-house. Their concept is similar to that of Paris Baguette, if you will, as diners can opt to enjoy drinks off the menu, as well as ice cream alongside their pick from the selection of baked goods. The bakery-cafe also sells a wide range of chocolate and bon-bons!
