From neon lights to stripes, black and white checkered floor tiles and old school jukebox, Breakfast Club at Kovan Serangoon has opened their newest branch at Holland Village.
Note: not to be confused with the famous The Breakfast Club at London.
It is right next to Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh, and replaced Yaowarat Thai Kway Chap.
Other cafes in the same stretch include The Chir Café & Bar, Two Men Bagel House, Kyushu Pancake and JOMO.
You find the vibes similar to Joji’s Diner – the brand is known for their American diner vibe, introducing a piece of America in the 50s and 60s in Singapore with an affordable dishes.
Owned by the same group by the way.
While the Breakfast Club at Kovan is within a kopitiam, this has a diner-style decor except for a more toned-down colour scheme.
Instead of using bright yellow and red colours, Breakfast Club has muted tones of beige and brown, completed with comfy dull yellow leathered seats.
The menu is largely similar at both outlets, serving American grub such as Fried Chicken & Waffle ($11.90), Burgers ($12.90), Fries ($8.90) and Milkshakes ($9.90 – $12.90).
Exclusive to this outlet are Country Fried Chicken & Mash ($12.90), Chicken Chop ($9.90) and Jane Hopper ($10.90).
Other signature items on the menu includes the All-Star Platter ($12.90), Farmer’s Plate ($21.90) and Rosti (Plain $6.90, Egg Sausage $9.90).
The Jane Hopper ($10.90) comes with a hearty portion of half a waffle topped with a sunny side up, scrambled eggs, baked potatoes, 2 bacon strips, 2 beef patties.
My favourite was the smooth, silky, and creamy scrambled egg with a creamy and buttery taste.
The baked potatoes are worth a mention, crispy with a light seasoning of spices.
However, both the beef patties and waffles were a tad too soft, the latter leaned towards more limpy and chewy.
The Jane Hopper is also served with maple syrup on the side to sweeten the deal, and if you need more of those, each table is also provided with a huge bottle of Country Kitchen syrup for the sweet tooth.
Waiting time was about 30 – 40 minutes for me, so be prepared to wait when the place gets crowded.
If you are looking for light bites, Breakfast Club also offers Cheesy Portobello ($2.90), Bacon (2pcs $1.90), Smoked Salmon ($3.90), Tatertots ($3.90), Bratwurst Sausage ($2.90) and Chicken Pops ($7.90).
The Chicken Pops ($7.90) reminded me of popcorn chicken, light, crispy, slightly spicy with light seasoning, yet quite addictive on its own.
For extra indulgence, feel free to approach the staff for cheese sauce for dipping.
The meal is not complete without the drinks, namely Iced Pink Lemonade ($3.90), Coffee ($3 – $5), Tea ($4.90 – $5.50) or their signature Milkshakes ($9.90 – $12.90).
The Iced Pink Lemonade ($3.90) had a layer of icing sugar glazed on the rim of the glass to balance out the citrus punch from the lemonade.
The Pink Lemonade was a refreshing take to balance out the greasiness from the fried food on the menu.
Breakfast Club is quite an interesting place to check out for the American diners vibe for both the affordable breakfast fuss-free food and #OOTD.
