Opened within ITE College Central, Boon Cafe is located at Blk F, furthest away from the main entrance and right beside the running tracks.
Named after their surname boon, which means 文 in Hainanese, the 22 tables space at Boon Cafe is spacious for both cafehoppers and students seeking a place to eat and study.
Stepping inside, I felt I had stepped into an exam hall due to the interesting seating arrangement where everyone sits and faces towards the same direction.
This is in line with the safe distancing measures to maximise the seating capacity.
Their items are kept affordable at less than $10, due to their location within an institution that caters mainly to students.
Menu items vary from Western ($6 – $9), Build Your Own Bowl ($5 – $8), Wanpaku Sandwich ($4), All Day Breakfast ($5 – $7) to an assortment of in-house pastries.
Only two dishes are available for their All Day Breakfast: Sweet ($5) served with a pancake and Savory ($7) served with slices of country loaf.
The Sweets All Day Breakfast ($5) come with 2 slices of sourdough pancakes at an affordable price of $5, topped with lotus biscoff crumbles and biscuits, maple syrup, icing sugar, strawberry slices, whipping cream and butter.
Unfortunately the texture is a tad too dry, chewy and doughy for my liking.
Their bakes on display are more interesting and all baked in-house, with a selection of Cheese Cheesecake (Original $4.50, Earl Grey with Cocoa $5), Strawberry Jelly Cheesecake ($6), Bomboloni Donuts ($3.50), Smoked Sea Salt Fudge Brownie ($2.50) and Burnt Cream Cheese Fudge Brownie ($3).
The Bomboloni Donuts comes in 3 different flavours: Vanilla, Matcha and 62% Dark chocolate.
I had the Matcha Bomboloni Donuts ($3.50) piped with smooth and velvety matcha cream, in contrast to the pillowy soft donut texture.
The sweet dough with fine sugar sprinkled on it, balances well with the distinctive earthy flavours of the matcha.
The highlight is the Cream Cheese Garlic Bread ($3) with a crunchy texture on the outside, soft, moist and creamy on the inside.
There is a generous amount of garlic butter slathered on the buns and crispy garlic bits sprinkled on it for the extra crunch.
The flavours are intense with a good sweet and savoury mix, yet not too overwhelming.
Coffee is reasonably priced and starts from $2 for a cup of Espresso, with alternative options Black ($2.50), White ($3), Mocha ($4) and Dirty Matcha ($5).
A nice addition to the mundane school life, Boon Cafe is also opened to public and is a good breakfast spot since they are opened at 8am.
