Alliance Seafood has Michelin-approved zi char at Newton

I’m of the opinion that some zi char places do better chilli crabs than your average seafood restaurant. A good example of this is Alliance Seafood, a zi char stall at Newton Food Centre that has earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand spot for its excellent seafood dishes, including, of course, their rendition of the chilli crab.

The stall has been serving up its acclaimed fare for more than 30 years. Impressively, it has maintained its Bib Gourmand award for the past few years, which is a testament to its quality.

Patrons have noted that the Chilli Crab (seasonal price) here tends to be juicy and plump, with a sauce that’s sweet, tangy, and satisfyingly spicy. It’s generally more affordable than what you’d get at a restaurant, while being just as good or even better in terms of taste.

Alliance Seafood is also known for their Sambal Stingray (from $15), another hugely popular local dish. Fresh, well-grilled, and with an irresistibly piquant sambal chilli slathered on top, this stingray is a must-have at your seafood feast here.

The Cereal Prawns (price TBD) here come highly recommended, too. The prawns are said to be fresh and sweet, with the wonderful aroma of curry leaves and of course, the crunchiness of cereal.

As with many popular stalls, especially those that are Michelin-approved, you may have to queue or wait a little longer for your food. But for seafood and zi char fans, it’s probably more than worth it.
